I think you're right; it's common in the US but not so much elsewhere.Seems much more common in US then or perhaps in older age group. Very common here to use only a fitted sheet and a duvet.
You can buy fitted sheets singly, you don't have to buy them in a set.
"You get two sheets. Every Saturday, you put the clean sheet on the top... the top sheet on the bottom...
in response to this and similar comments - people who don't use top sheets tend not to use blankets but to use duvets with removable covers - these are usually made from washable cotton, same as sheets, and just get washed with the sheet.I use a top sheet…
Don’t have to wash blankets as often..
We inherited a goose down duvet with a removable cover when my mother passed away. I agree with @DebraMae. Stuffing the duvet back into the cover is a major pain.Having to wash and put back on that duvet cover sucks. I will always have a top sheet.![]()
Yes I use a top sheet and bottom sheet otherwise I’d have to wash my comforter every week which I don’t.
Same for me - both comments. For me, the top sheet is essential because it creates options. Sometimes I sleep just with that and other times I layer a blanket on top.
We just can't walk into Walmart and find duvets with fitted covers, the way you can go in Marks and Sparks and find them. Here sheets are sold in sets with one fitted bottom sheet, one fitted top sheet and two pillow cases. Duvets are harder to find and pretty expensive.Seems much more common in US then or perhaps in older age group. Very common here to use only a fitted sheet and a duvet.

Isn’t that a lot of work having to wash 2 comforters frequently?I don't use any sheets. I sleep between two comforters.
Darn right! I'm amazed at people who can sleep in the summertime with nothing over them at all!Yes, everybody knows the boogyman won't get you if youre covered with a top sheet.![]()

I use both fitted on bottom, top sheet above. Right now the only other cover on my be is a down comforter. In summer I was using a very thin lightweigh comforter.saw this question come up on Facebook and some posters got really riled up when others didn't do same as them
I do like one but many people here don't use them any more and just have a fitted sheet and then a duvet/doona with removable covers.
