Do You Use Alexa or Siri or ..

If you have one of these, do you use Alexa or Siri or anything similar? I never have and have no desire to at this point. My husband would be forever asking me what I just said, thinking I was talking to him.

Apparently, we’re encouraged to be polite them. The logic behind that is we’ll be more trusting of what we say to them. “Allow Siri to learn from you?” No.

I have both but only use Alexa in ther house to play music - usually for Likkle Grandson.

I use Siri via CarPlay in my car to set reminders when something pops into my head.

I use Alexa for streaming music, news, podcasts, etc. Turning lights on and off, or even different colors. Monitoring temperature and humidity indoors and out. Glass breakage sensing when away, as well as randomized lights on and off at night. Placing phone calls, turning a humidifier and an oil diffuser on and off. The current time, weather. Set timers for events like cooking. Asking simple questions. On rare occasions re-ordering things from Amazon. Amazon deliveries are announced and a sensor in my mailbox lets me know when it has been opened so mail deliveries get announced.

Lots of things.

The car that I've been eyeballing even comes with Alexa built in. It also has Google built in and supports both Android Auto and Apple Carplay via wirelessly connected phone.

But we have at least three different generations represented on this forum site, so I can imagine how opinions will vary.

what he said ^^^^^^....

I have Alexa ( Amazon Echo for those who don't know they are one and the same)... and Google Home hub....

I use them for a Myriad of things as well as Information....

Alexa is in the livingroom.. Google home hub is in both office rooms..and yes I have Siri on my phone but I've probably used it 3 times in it's entire lifetime..

After reading these replies, I’m now thinking I may use Siri.

When I read on the iPad or computer, I’m supposed to look away after 20 minutes. I haven’t been able to find a way to have a timer than gives a quick reminder (ding) and then repeats every 20 minutes.

I can’t believe I’m actually writing this. 😉

As I was setting this up, DH just walked past me and gave me a “are you crazy” glance. LOL.

Honestly, I think these are part of the new societal need to overshare. We're willingly swapping convenience for our own security. While people worry about "1984", they happily pay money to be tracked by a "convenient" assistant. I turned off all biometric features of my new phone. I don't need an Alexa or Siri.

I have Siri. At first, I was reluctant to use him. I do crossword puzzles when the commercials come on. He does come up with the hard answers. I remember one of the first times I asked questions. He gave me the answer, and without thinking I said "Thank you". It floored me when he came back with "You're welcome".
I want to rename him, Charlie, and teach him to swear.

Being totally ignorant of Alexa & Siri, I asked Google to explain:

"Siri is designed to operate in the Apple ecosystem, which comprises iOS, WatchOS, MacOS, and TvOS devices. This OS integration allows users to use Siri with a similar experience on different devices. Meanwhile, Amazon Alexa is found in Echo devices and provides integration with third-party smart devices."

Was that explanation in English? Think I need to go and lay down in a dark room with a damp towel over my head.

Not personally and do not plan to because for this old computer person it doesn't add any significant functionality I already have. Same reason I often work on the Command line with cmd dot exe.

That noted, have no interest to criticize others that wish to.
