Do you use Facebook and are in it?

I've been on Facebook for about 6 years now. It's been great fun reconnecting with friends from my high school days, and other friends I'd lost touch with over the years, and sharing in their lives now. I also enjoy the things they share like cute animal videos, amusing cartoons, thought-provoking messages, and photos. I don't understand FB users who have hundreds of friend in their list, because it would be impossible to keep up with all of their posts...so why? My list of friends is intentionally small (less than 80). I wouldn't want to miss anything they might post that is interesting or important to them, and therefore to me.

Do you know---- that if you are not connected to someone on Facebook, does your message go in
their Email inbox or where does it go?
Aurora, unless I am misunderstanding what you are saying, your question is worded wrong. You can't just go on Facebook and blindly send a message to whoever. You have to go on their wall, if you are not a friend of theirs, and MAYBE you can leave them a privet message. It goes by how they have their privacy settings. If you can't send them a message you can't send it, it won't go anywhere. Email really has nothing to do with Facebook, I am guessing you are talking about private messages when you say email. If someone is your friend and you just go to their wall and post than possibly any of their friends can see it. But there again it goes by how they have set up their privacy. I think a lot of people don't realize you can set your Facebook wall where NO ONE, not even your friends can see much at all. I never understood the purpose of that but I do know one gal who is set up that way. I felt she was just wanting to see what others were doing but didn't want anyone to know what was up with her. I unfriended her.

I have my Facebook set to where my name or my photo will NOT come up on any internet search.

As far as photos. You can click on a photo someone has sent you and then right click on it and an option comes up for you to save it. I save it and then print it off. So I have it just the same as if someone mailed it to me.

I can also right click on anything cute I see there and repost it somewhere else. Like this: nicePost.jpg
Or here is a photo my son sent me today from Europe, it's of his wife napping and one of their dogs obviously hogging up the couch.

I don't like Facebook much and only signed onto it as a couple of years ago one of my daughters and her family were touring Canada and the US and it was the only way to keep in touch. Only my daughters can see my page, I have no wish for others to do so.

Aurora and Linda, unless someone has privacy set to not receive PM's (private messages) then you can send anyone a message. If you don't want to hear from them you can block them. It doesn't go to email it goes to their private messages on FB. My FB is set to high privacy although I like to receive messages just in case it's someone I may want to hear from.

I use FB PMs rather than email for many family and friends.

I've been on Facebook for a number of years now. Keeps me in touch with relatives all over the world.

I use it to much

I also use FB to keep up with grandchildren, and a few friends, but you do have to learn how to set up parameters. Like Linda, I've had a couple of people that I wished never to hear from contact me. Both times by people that I'll never be able to accept into my life again.

I'm a Facebook user. It comes in very handy in keeping up with friends and family.

I have been on face book for about 5 years. I use it as a way to find out what is happening in my family and relatives lives. I have family, relatives and friends on my facebook. I do not have people on that I do not know.

I am on Facebook like all of the time. I connect with friends and family through it, get a lot of news through it, message through it.

I joined FB in 2007 when we went to live in Uganda for two years. Great way to keep in touch! Still on it and very active.

1 ditto.gif...to all of above....Family and close friends..Also a private page for male friends..bandit.gif and a fishing page..fish.gif

I'm on it. I use the IM section for talking to friends and family. My news feed is mostly interesting pages... and Jokes... Auntie Acid is a hoot!! Never ever any personal family drama is aired on the open feed.

Privacy settings are your friend on FB. You can also un-following people if you don't want to see their every post about what they had to eat every hour on the hour and just check their page when you wish to.

This morning while having my breakfast and browsing FB I saw pics of my home in Scotland posted by the friends checking on our house.
Saw pics of snow (not common) in Scotland posted by several of hubby's relatives, including a snowman built by his grand-nephew/niece.
Saw pic of friends in Florida at their new winter home.
Read about the evil Ann Coulter and a great comeback by a Down Syndrome man.
Read about my expat friend in England who is excited about going to visit her family in Charleston in a few days.
Saw old pics of hubby's grandparents, cousins, etc. And a pic of him as an 8 year old.
Read a post by my brother with a link to him speaking on the radio again.
Saw entertaining video clips of Obama being funny, silly, etc.
Replied to comments on my Thailand photos which many say they are enjoying and love to armchair travel with me.
Various political posts.
Jokes.
Human interest stories.
News highlights from The Guardian.
Following my nephew and his family as they adjust to their move to Texas.
etc etc etc etc.

That was interesting Ameriscot and that's about me, every day. Even when I travel out of town. I really enjoy using Facebook.

Thanks. And those who have never joined or have the wrong friends think it's nothing but pics of someone's dinner, pics of cats, or dumb jokes.

As I've mentioned before I have friends and family in the US, UK, Uganda, Australia, Japan, and the Netherlands. Age range 16 to 85.

6 am here and I am on Facebook watching our severe weather reports. A tornado has damaged a section of Sarasota and is heading our way right now. Winds and rain are out there right now. They are saying that El Niño is affecting our weather this year. Going out in Florida room to watch the rain and wind. Hang on to your hats.
A good feature on Facebook is you can set audio weather alert.

Stay safe Pappy!!!

I've been on Facebook so many years I've lost count. I've connected with people that I graduated with from high school, and relatives on my Dad's side that I haven't seen since we were kids. It has given me laughs when I was so depressed and while my husband was sick. My Facebook friends and family were a lot of support plus a good escape while I was so tied down and couldn't get out while I was taking care of him! I don't have a picture of me either because I hate looking at my own picture. With some people, a picture wouldn't help because if we haven't seen someone since we graduated, they could have changed so much so they couldn't be recognized even with a picture. I know I've run into people that will say, "we went to school together" and I don't have a clue who they are. I have to apologize and ask who they are. It is so embarrassing. What I did so the people from my high school, etc. would know who was trying to contact them is, I set my account up with my 1st name, then my maiden name with my last name now. For example, Jean Martin Smallwood. This way they had a better idea of who I was. It worked!

I have been on FB for a long time & if it wasn't for FB I would never know what's going on with my family and close friends.
