Do you use senior helpers/aids?

Have said this many times-grab bars are not for just oldies! It just makes common sense to us to have them regardless of age. I like the bathmat I have, he does not, so we did put down non slip discs. I have grabber, for more than one reason, age is not one of them. I use a cane outside the home, so I can walk a bit further, plus falling is terror of mine. The cane lends stability for me. I have magnifying glasses in kitchen and living room as he might as well be blind, and I see good except for itty bitty ( who the devil can see that anyway) print.
I use a heating pad almost everyday on back and shoulders for chronic pain. I have been almost deaf for a long time.My old hearing aid needs a repair, so only use one. I cringe at the thought of losing it.
When we were dating me 42- him 35 - I asked what are we going to do, when we get older? He said, you will lead, and I will follow, and that is when I thought - yep this here young thing is keeper!😍

Very nice slice-of-life vignette. Enjoyed reading it.

Yesterday I had an appointment where the doctor's office was a distance from the parking garage. I took along a rollator walker which a kind soul had gifted me. It fits in my hatchback without having to fold it and I can leave my cane behind.
There is storage under the seat for my purse, phone and any papers. What could have been a scary journey was a breeze. You can also stop and sit down if necessary.

I've installed a couple Grab bars in both bathrooms.
Many years ago, my husband installed a Swanstone bath surround, we were always happy with it, but it's not hard real stone, which is fine. Our house and bathroom is small, we wanted something simple and natural looking.

I'm fine getting in and out of the tub for a shower, and I have a good bath mat that I'm happy with. I have been thinking of having someone install one sturdy grab bar, guess I'm thinking it would be silver/stainless steel material. Can they drill into that Swanstone surround without cracking it or breaking it up? I definitely would not want suction cups. What is your opinion Nathan?

You may want to contact technician support at Swanstone.

@SeaBreeze, I am not familiar with swanstone but I'm guessing a hole for the anchor bolts would have to be done with a masonry bit, along with epoxy to hold the anchor. That's how the grab bar was mounted inside our shower, that we had tiled, a couple years ago.

I just learned this year about ‘upright’ walkers, and I got one … It is wonderful, and walking is so easy now.

Didn’t realize until I really needed aid walking, that regular walkers are painful and hurt your back.

Thanks for you input and advice Nathan. My husband likely has a masonry bit in the garage and appropriate epoxy, but that's a good point you bring up. I will have to have someone come in some day and take of it for me, I'm in no rush, but it should be taken care of. I'm always very careful in the shower, especially now that there's nobody to call for help. My pup Bear would happily jump in the tub with me, but that would just be emotional support. 💙 :)

I speed(walk ha) around my apt using my walker trying not to lean bent over too much, then when sitting, I try to make up for the bending by sitting as straight as possible in my recliner. Btw, anyone here who sits in a recliner ............have you developed a sore spot on one of your bottom 'cheeks'?
