Do You Use Uber, or Call a Taxi?

I haven't needed a cab ride in many years, and lately everyone's talking about Uber service. Do you ever use Uber instead of a taxi? Does anyone here drive for Uber for extra spend money?

I don't use any kind of apps like that, and call me old-fashioned, but I think if I needed a ride, even if I had access to the app, I'd likely feel safer in calling a regular Taxi Cab company and going that route.

With Uber, it seems like you're just getting into an unmarked strangers car, and trusting them to get you where you have to go. I wonder if any of those drivers have used that position to do harmful things to people?

Do you think it's a safe as using a Taxi? Are my impressions of the service way off base?

I have wondered the exact same thing SeaBreeze. I think I saw it advertised on a local FB group I am on up here in the mts awhile back and then all at once, I haven't heard anymore. I would be uncomfortable getting in an "unmarked" car. I think I'll google it in a few minutes and see what I can find out. :)

Anytime I visit a big city, I generally use a taxi. While in London last week, I used a private driver.

I agree -- I wouldn't want to just get into a stranger's car. And also the reverse -- I wouldn't want to be having strangers in my car, either -- what about the passenger doing harmful things to the driver?

The older I get, the less I trust my fellow man/woman.

My son uses Uber, and he's a regular cab driver, in Sydney. Often means that he's out of town after a long run he can get a fare back to town.

Now that makes sense if he's a cab driver already and utilizes Uber not to make a trip back from somewhere empty.

I feel the same way Butterfly.

This is the first time I've heard of Uber and am not sure its something I would want to try.
When/if I need it, cabs are always an easy option for me.

I wouldn't consider calling Uber.
Neither would I!
Reason: At the beginnings of their operations in Australia, they firmly lodged their Uber advert in my e-mail! The nerve of these people!
Had to hunt down a special program to finally get rid of them.
So pushy-(Uber=over)

Sounds like a smart person to me, seems to be more of the younger generations niche like our kids and younger maybe. I've heard mostly positive things from people I know who've used the service, Seems many find it very beneficial for after a night out on the town. I especially like how the app works when you text for the ride, it shows the time and distance of how far away the ride is for when it will be there.

Last time I rode in Uber, I dropped my phone I call/texted the driver, he came all the way back to my home from a county over to drop my phone to me and wasn't expecting a dime, but, I asked him to wait so I could give him something for his time, money that is. LOL! With anything, there's good and bad, you'll find some shady workers in any business, so far, the people I talk with and for myself, the cars have been well maintained most better than cabs and the drivers extremely curteous. Well at least in my dealings with them.

My cab is always available 24/7,open my front door and there it is in the driveway.
