Call me cheap, which I don't really think I am, but I don't like this. Goodwill does it. Other thrift stores. I had to go to Joann Fabrics today for something I wanted and they asked about a donation round up. "No thank you" is my standard response.

I wouldn't even give Goodwill the 2 cents this morning. It all adds up. PAWS thrift never asks but people donate their change their willingly. I hear it and I do sometimes also depending on what I got.

Anyone else? I donate to who I want to. I don't like to be asked.
 

I personally ā€˜hateā€™ being pressured to donate my change thatā€™s rightfully mine. Itā€™s purposefully putting the paying customer on the spot which I donā€™t appreciate in the least. Iā€™m there shopping, getting items that I require. If I want to donate funds I do it at MY convenience and to whom I wish. Itā€™s a horrible proposition to put onto paying customers. Itā€™s basically guilting customers out from collecting their change which is a horrible thing to do.
note: Iā€™m a very generous person but really dislike being pushed and pressured

It's everywhere I go in the retail environment these days. I've become almost numb to it. It must be super annoying for the clerks having to ask the same question all day long. I must say, I've never heard the "round up or down" thing here where I live. They just ask if you want to donate to so & so cause and sometimes they mention a dollar amount like 2 bucks.

yeah lets see the audit ....and performed by who--maybe the local extortionist of the day....mayor senator clergy it is call corruption--watch the news ..take your pick changes every day....by the dozens ....fbi thats a good one....

Oh it's been going for a while...even my bank asks me if I want to sign up to round up my change ... and then there's the other one which so many stores are doing..including discount stores like Wilko..in that on the card machine.. when you tap or insert your card, you will automatically pay 25p toward a charity..UNLESS you press the very small red button to say NO... Most people me included can hardly see the type on a card machine, I don't wear my reading specs when I'm at the till.... and are easily taken for an extra 25p

Sam Walton's heirs own 50% of all WalMarts. They are a lot richer than I am. I never give a penny to them. I hate it when they ask me and other "peasants" to give something extra. I never do and I feel very proud and happy with the fact that I never do.

They should be ashamed to ask the hard working common people for money but apparently they don't know any shame at all!

I agree! Luckily I don't feel a bit guilty. In the past I might have and that's what they depend on. That person who doesn't want to say no.
 
No cashier ever asks me if I want to round up. It is always on the screen when I insert my credit card, so I never feel pressured. I always round up, and if a business like my grocery store asks for a donation to fight hunger I always click on an amount. Every time I buy my pet food at Petsmart I donate a few dollars to the ASPCA. I consider myself fortunate from a financial standpoint and I'm happy to help those who are less fortunate.
 
I give to charities monthly like the World Wildlife Federation, Ocean Conservancy, Aspca. Throughout the year I'll give one time donations to Doctors Without Borders, St. Jude, Red Cross, Salvation Army, etc. If they ask me at the checkout to round up, I can go either way depending on who they say it's going to, may say yes or no.
