Do You Watch Any Animated Programing?

"Paw Patrol" is so cute it gives you diabetes!!!!!!!!
How so. Does it make you snack too much when you're watching? Actually, they weren't included in my "not cute" statement because I never saw the characters before. It's a different type of animation than Simpsons and Bob's. I just did a search and the Paw Patrol does have cute characters. Still won't be watching though.

Odd this thread happens now. Last night I stepped out of character and watched Woody Woodpecker on Netflix. It's actual actors mixed with an animated Woody. Funny as heck at first, but hampered by so-so acting, meh direction, and a corny plot, it slows down. However, it was good enough that I watched until the end, where I frequently can't make it through a Netflix selection.

Each morning on my METV.com channel at 7:00 a.m. there is a cartoon show with Toony the tuna and Bill. While the hosts do little side shows of suggestions and retro remembrances the show runs cartoons made in the 30's, 40's, 50's, & 60's. Lots of Popeye, MGM, Paramount, and Looney Tunes cartoons are shown.

The show is not aimed at children. Rather at seniors who remember these oldies but goodies. You can tell who the show is aimed at because the adverts are aimed at older adults and seniors. Nice way to start the day.

METV also runs lots of old serials like My 3 Sons, MASH, Andy Griffith, Green Acres, etc. It seems like a channel made for seniors who have good memories of their younger days.

Yes. Woody WoodPecker were never very good cartoons for the reasons you gave. My favorite was Looney Tunes with the Roadrunner, Bugs Bunny, and the little Chicken Hawk and his Rooster pal. Porky Pig was a close second.

Yes, I know that it's totally dumb, but hey, I watched the Three Stooges when I was younger. Perhaps I should have put this picture in the Mindless Thread?

You can still find the 3 Stooges on broadcast TV. They come on on Saturday between 6 and 8 p.m. on MeTv in my location. I used to watch them as well. A great source of socialization for a child. A child who got into a lot of trouble as a result. LOL I still laugh out loud at them. Women hate them, though. And, that's funny, too. LOL

I watch the 3 Stooges every Saturday night for pure unapologetic intellectual stimulation! 😎

I just never could get into them. @Robb.hisself

I watched The Princess and the Frog several years ago. It was nice to see a Black princess. I also watched Coco, which was recommended by another senior online friend, who is very much into movies and T.V. It was about a little Hispanic boy who wanted to be a guitarist so bad but his family forbade it. It was heartwarming and excellent.

The Little Rascals/Our Gang are still pretty good too. Though there is a lot of revisionist whinging about black actors in those films, it made good career opportunities for many of them - both children and adults.

Oops! We were talking animation, weren't we. Sorry.
Yes, we were talking about animation, but in the days of the Little Rascals their shorts were equal to cartoons at the movies.

And, you observations about revisionism is quite correct, too. Today, we just can't laugh at ourselves. We just can't see the fun and humor that was fun and humor of the past. We are just too judgemental and self righteous thinking we are so pure of heart and mind, today.

Maybe not. Maybe we are far too prejudiced today than we think we are. Someday in the future the following generations will judge us as harshly for our stiff necked self righteousness and judgementalist eliteism as we strive for purity in despondent despair and regret.

The past can't be changed. We can only honor and respect the past for its perspective. So laugh at the Little Rascals for the fun they are and were or be laughed at for forgeting how to laugh. Good observation.

It is understandable. As I stated, 'women hate them, though'. They are rather anti-social from a feminist perspective. But, for the men of their era and for some today, acting out their way is a dream come true. Life would be so nice if we could 'cut loose' like that occasionally.

I love watching animation films, @OneEyedDiva ! It all started when I was watching Paddington with my son because he had read the book when he was young, then we saw the sequel, then we started looking for more animated movies. Here is a list of what we have seen so far (some of them we have seen more than once!):
Ice Age (all the movies) - loved them, especially the sloth!
Madagascar
Shrek
(all the movies) - loved Eddie Murphy's voice as the donkey! Hilarious!
Finding Nemo
Despicable Me
(all movies, including Minions) - loved the minions!
Coco (loved the concept of going to heaven)
Frozen I and II
Puss'n Boots (loved Bandura's voice)
Ratatouille
The Incredibles (loved the concept of a superhero family)
Sing (didn't like as much)
Elemental (saw it recently in the theater - loved the concept of the elements living together)
Tangled
Toy Story (didn't like it at all)
Transylvania
Moana
Encanto

There are probably more, but this is what I remember we have watched over the years!

I also saw some of the ones you mentioned...Moana, Tangled, the Shreks, Finding Nemo, Despicable Me (#1), Madagascar and Frozen, which I wasn't that crazy about. I don't know why I forgot to mention Rio2, which I actually paid to see in the theater...it was so cute. There's a couple more that I can't think of right now.

I'll try to refrain from further gushing over Fullmetal Alchemist, but I've been watching newcomers react to the "Brotherhood" adaptation on YouTube and another great tune is on my mind:

Pained, wistful, yet hopeful. Keep putting one foot ahead of the other. The kind of advice many of us wish we could impart to our younger selves.

In the video montage there is a family photo where the Dad's face is covered. You'll have to watch the show to find out why.

No need to apologize D. This wouldn't be the first thread in which things went off course a bit and it won't be the last. I think that it sometimes makes for some very interesting conversation. The Little Rascals - Our Gang children were wonderful actors. Of course I used to watch.

I see you watch Anime. I know it's popular and at least one of my adult grandsons watches. He told me about one he thinks is good and suggested I watch, but I've never checked out that or any of the other Anime cartoons.

Studio Ghibli anime are very good .. featuring serious topics. They are not "cartoons".
It's the only anime I can watch.

One of the things I noticed about anime is the way other cultures can take it more seriously. So much so that there are even live concerts that reprise songs from these shows.

I've mentioned the FMA franchise above. Here is one of its songs, written and sung in Russian with Japanese voiceovers near the end. Subtitles are in romanized Russian and in Spanish, I assume the concert was in Spain.

The song is two young brothers singing to each other about the aftermath of their mother dying and leaving them alone, accepting what they have done then apologizing and forgiving and pledging to go on.

Here is another random example. This one is a popular show-end ballad from the series Inuyasha which is also pretty well known around the world.

As far as I know this isn't "a thing" for most western TV series.

I don't watch very much of it. Mostly a very short list of things that are already pretty "westernized" before being dubbed into English. An anime fan would probably turn his nose up at me as unsophisticated.
