We are all entitled to choose our own wardrobes (unless you join military or get a job that requires a uniform. i have no pastels and no bright orange (burnt orange ok but other shades of orange do not look good with my skin tone) in my closets. Even when i had to wear 'professional' professional' outfits (with modest hemlines, necklines and not body hugging) i felt my color choices were my decision and i never had complaints from management.
 
I don't wear white very often and do not like white shoes at any time but the times have changed and I understand it is perfectly acceptable to wear white year round now. I have some white jeans which I will pair with a navy or brown pull on sweater and boots.
 
I can remember that my father wore a white shirt with a tie and dress jacket to work every day, year round. It was simply part of expected business attire back then. Men simply did not wear colored shirts to executive jobs back in the day; the fabric of civilization might unravel, or something equally horrendous…

My father also wore a hat to and from work every day, and read a newspaper as he rode the train on his commute, as did every other office-employed man back then…

My white cotton pants are exactly like those and I just hung them in the back of my closet and put away the white tennies I wore with them. Mainly because I lived in them all summer and enough is enough. Now it will probably be black pants or jeans until spring. I wear white blouses all winter though and as many colorful tops as I can find.

I do understand. We can get warm weather here well after Labor day so I'm not pushing it when I wear sleeveless blouses and white jeans. I want to be comfortable. That photo was in Nov. and it was in the seventies so I wore white, and sandals, and walked through autumn leaves. And I do enjoy it. :giggle:
 
Many decades ago when I was in the Navy we were sailing in the Mediterranean. We were told that the next day we would not wear whites, it was now blues season. We went into Gibraltar and when we went ashore we were in our winter blues and the British sailors were in their summer whites with shorts!
 
If I want to. My sister will not. I think it's a silly "rule". First of all, summer is not over for another couple of weeks after Labor Day. Then you have people who wear "winter white" (which is really a cream or some say linen color) in the fall and winter seasons. So what's the difference? I told my sister that if it feels like summer, then I see nothing wrong with dressing like it's summer, including wearing white.
