Do You Wear Your Seatbelt?

I've ridden tour buses, excursion buses, airplanes and taxis. Never ever saw a seatbelt in the first two.
This is in the last 5 years that it’s mandatory that they were installed on new tour and excursion buses. Maybe it’s happening everywhere.

I should have asked about taxis too. Based on having to dig them out (yuck) in the back seat in the rare event I take a taxi, I would say many people don’t.

It's the law here. They won't pull you over for not wearing one here, but they could pull you over for a tail light and cite you for no seat belt then.
It's illegal here...it's an immediate on the spot fine of £100...or pay £52, and take an awareness course....and they're talking of making it a penalty points offence..

The minimum penalty points which can be attached to your licence is 3.. this could be for a minor traffic infraction... and go up in increments of 3.. so if you get 12 points on your licence it usually means an automatic driving ban. For a more serious driving infringement.. you may get 9 or even the whole 12 points... so if you already have 9 points on your licence, then you get 3 for a minor offence, you get an immediate ban .

We’re a fine and points province. The points made the big difference in changing minds. Rich people who didn’t care about money changed their minds when they realized they could lose their license.
Exactly that Jules.. the points make the difference...

Apparently 1 in 4 people killed on UK roads last year were not wearing seatbelts.. so if the point system was implemented as well as the fine, it would make a big difference as you rightly say

Being older as in before seat belts it wasn't unusual to see cars in junk yards with the windshields damaged on the inside by drivers & passengers being launched head 1st. into the windshield.

So yes using seat belts when provided I will use them

Its there so that we don't fall to the floorboards  , which at our age is more dangerous.
However I have to tell you that not wearing a seatbelt can cause other people to be injured by someone not wearing a seat belt... in fact a large proportion of people who get catapulted through a windscreen, cause the death of someone else in another vehicle... and or.. a rear passenger not wearing a seat belt can cause serious illness or death to the front seat driver or passenger.. here's an example....and my ex was a firefighter, and he saw this type of thing all the time..

Police here will often set up a couple of officers in a car parked at the side of the road on the entrance ramp to freeways. As cars pass by one officer is standing outside the car specifically looking to see if the driver and others have seatbelts on and if the driver is using a cell phone. They've usually got one or two pulled over.

$200.00 + 2 points for no seatbelts (up to $1,000.00 subsequent convictions) + insurance increase.
$615.00 + 3 points + 3 day license suspension for cell phone use while driving (up to 30 day suspension for multiple convictions) + insurance increases.

What a lovely compliment, thank you. The model is called an MG Y-Type. It came out of MG's design office in 1937, prototypes were built for road testing and so forth but production never got started. Like most engineering companies at that time, MG was pressed into production for WW2. At the end of hostilities the only model on their books was the Y-Type. So although it's production date is 1947, it's design goes back to a time before the war.
There was another MG produced that shared about 85% of it's DNA with the Y-Type, it was much loved by US servicemen and many found their way back to Uncle Sam's shores.
MG didn't miss a trick, note which side the steering wheel is on. The model was known as the MG TD, it looked like this and, it too never had seat belts.

That is the car I had only mine was light blue. Now I always wear a seat belt.

Disgustedman, I remember movies like that when I was in school that was part of the classroom training. Now the don't show them because they are inappropriate or too shocking for future drivers I guess.

I think a lot of kids (and some adults) could benefit from watching the videos & seeing what could happen before they get stupid behind the wheel. I know some won't learn no matter what, but if it makes a few think, it would be worth it

Never did when I was younger, but when my son was born it quickly became a habit, and in my classic cars I installed seat/shoulder belts . Oddly enough I still don't wear a helmet on the motorcycle. I feel they obstruct my vision and hearing, and the way I ride I probably wouldn't survive a a crash anyway. That, and some studies show that helmets can cause broken necks.
Well, I was completely against "the law" telling us we had to wear helmets until I was dirt biking out at Glamath and the fella on his bike right ahead of me went up this 15 ft. sand hill and didn't make it. When he hit, his skull was cracked wide open. (This was in the soft sand!) That kinda made me a believer.

I started wearing seat belts when I was around 18 years old, I don't think it was even a law yet. I rolled a car over onto the passenger side and found myself with my back against the passenger door and my feet pointing in the air. I took that as a lesson as why cars have seat belts.

I should also mention it happened right in front of Jeffery Dahmers childhood home. This was before he was known but right about the time he killed his first victim. I was double lucky that night!

I'm not sure my car will even drive without a seatbelt fastened. If I start her up and get engrossed in something like the satnav etc before I put the belt on there's a lady's voice (the car not Mrs Oy) that insists I fasten my seatbelt. Repeatedly, every 20 seconds or so.

Yes, helmets I believe in too. I was wearing a helmet when I went down on a bike (motorcycle) at about 50 mph and walked away with just a scratch on my hand. (Also wearing leather jacket) When I looked at the helmet afterwards, all I could think was, "oh my God, that would have been my head!"

Another incident that made me a believer in helmets is a guy who was 4 wheeling not wearing a helmet, flipped his machine and is now in a wheelchair trying to remember how to talk.

I guess we all have horror stories we could tell.

Interesting tid bit. New Hampshire is the only state in the US where it isn't mandatory to wear a seat belt.
Also, any vehicle manufactured in the US before 1965 weren't required to have seat belts. For a while, lawmakers tried to make you retro fit a seat belt in older cars. That died on the vine when lawyers pointed out the liability factor of someone inexperienced installing the belts and then, say, selling the car where a person gets hurt from the non engineered belting arrangement.
That said, I Put them in the wife's 57 (she use's them), but, I don't use them when I'm driving. Likewise, I don't wear a skid lid while on my motorcycle. My choice. Also explains why I'm actively seeking a 1964 or older vehicle for myself.

When I was a kid, before seat belts were required, my dad had them installed in his cars. So I've always worn one. Everyone who is in my car must wear a seat belt or get out.

When I was 12, my best friend died in a car accident. She wasn't wearing a seat belt (this was 1968), the car door opened, and she flew out and died.
