Does alcohol or dairy products like milk affect anti biotic effectiveness?

Got into a debate with someone who had to take three rounds of antibiotics to get rid of an infection. They are a big time drinker and eat a lot of pizza, cheeseburgers etc. I've always been told or seem to remember warning labels telling one to avoid dairy or alcohol when taking them. They said their doctor told them that was never the case and "today's" antibotics are different. I've had IV antibiotics for a procedure but it's been 20 years or so since my last pill and I'm trying to remember the warning labels.

It depends on the type of antibiotics and the timing of the dose. Some can be taken with food and some not. the same with dairy - depends on the type of antibiotic and timing of dose. It usually says on the bottle if there are any restrictions

There are other meds like some thyroid medications that can be blocked by dairy products too. I usually ask the pharmacist just to make sure, even if the bottle doesn't mention anything. Or Google it.
