Does ambien work well for you?

If I remember correctly, that's what Tiger Woods was taking when he had that terrible accident.

My late husband took it for several years or so when he shattered his ankle from a fall. He had 4 surgeries within 10 weeks and had a life-threatening infection. He couldn't sleep so they prescribed Ambien. They said, "Oh, it's not a narcotic so it won't be habit forming". Ya, right! He was addicted to it and after about 3 years or so the insurance said they wouldn't pay for it any more. That was a blessing because it forced him to quit taking it. He went back to not sleeping. He tried melatonin OTC and it helped a little. It was a struggle for him but he eventually got back into a sleep routine.
Yes, Ambien is addictive, regardless of what doctors say. I think it's a Class IV drug. It's one of those drugs that people use for recreational purposes. I think that's why the doctor won't prescribe it for me. I also asked for Xanax and he said NO to that one also.

I seem to sleep best when I am cold. Go to bed, wake up 4 am ish, do the trip and pull on some warm pj.
Warm back up fall asleep, kick off covers, I retired F the 6 am ritual is my thoughts.

I was once using Ambien and it didn't make me go to sleep quickly either. It would take over an hour. So, I was at business function that ended at 9pm and popped an Ambien thinking I would be back in my room by 10pm when it kicked in. Wrong! I was sitting around talking to colleagues and I've been told that my eyes rolled back in my head and I became incoherent. Someone in the group escorted me back to my room and I woke up the next morning with no knowledge of what happened.

I also went through the McDonald's drive through one day and the cashier said "I usually don't see you here at this hour" so I'm convinced I was driving to McDonald's at night with no knowledge. Never again!

When my mother was in hospice she was prescribed Trazadone for sleep. It is both an anti-depressant and sleep aid. I now take it. It still doesn't put me to sleep quickly so I take Fall Asleep Faster, which is a natural gummy that I get at Albertsons. The two do the trick for me.

Try two tablespoons of tart cherry juice concentrate a day. Also, try valerian root capsules. These are helpful to me and do not have adverse side effects.

Sleeping in a cool dark room helps too. Personally, I like about 60 degrees or cooler - once I warm up I am out like a light.

Tried valerian, did not help. I will look for the juice. Do I take it at bedtime?
