Does Anybody Use A YouTube Alternative

I am getting fed up with YouTube, if I check,
anything, maybe a recipe, all of a sudden I
get about 80% recipes, there is no real mix
of choice, look at a dashcam, same again, a
lot of those, change, by asking for something,
loads and loads of the same.

Years ago, there was a good one, ????? Café,
I can't remember the name, might have been
Mecca, it was Canadian, but that closed years
ago.

You can tell that our TV, doesn't always fit my
expectations, Netflix and Prime have choices,
but again, I don't fancy long productions.

No. I have no personal experience with any of them. I looked them over and many are for content creators and I found them confusing. So, no, I can't recommend any of it.

I don't have a problem with YouTube. It follows me all around the internet and suggests videos based on things I text, searches I try.

That's just marketing. Its not going away anytime soon.

The internet has to make money to sustain itself and its made money quietly in the background by selling their tracking system results among other things.

I try not to pay outright for any of it so I can't complain when they find it necessary to get money some other way.

Thank you once again for your reply, OldFeller, I agree with you,
I don't have a problem with the internet in general, but YouTube
here seems to work differently from your version, the one here
only seems to work on what I have looked at in their site, not by
my surfing, maybe if I used another programme and not Google,
it might act differently, maybe I should pay for the use!

If I do find an alternative, I will post it here.

There is a way around your frustration in being flooded with "like content suggestions".
On the Youtube page just to the left of the Youtube banner is a little menu icon that looks like 3 bars.
Just click on that icon, and a dropdown window will appear, and one of the selections is "History"
Click on that, and another window will give an option to "pause watch history"
Once you click that, it will ignore your watching patterns until you go back again an un-pause it.

just yesterday I cleared my history completely, for the same reasons that Mike is having a problem with. I have to do this on a regular basis

Literally youtube just suggests videos about subjects I;ve watched... nothing new at all...

There is a clear distinction between clearing your history and pausing it.
Clearing it means it just resets to a fresh starting point and begins tracking again.
Pausing your history puts a halt on tracking what you watch until you un-pause it again.

ah interesting I didn't know that..I'll pause it next time and see what hapens....

I use Rumble as well. I don't know if it would be considered to be better because I don't use it as much as YT. I have not used it in months now.

Thanks bobcat, I did something like this in the past and
YouTube/Google, blew a gasket, I couldn't get anything
on the screen, it came up blank, I kept refreshing, then I
got a message ask for something, when I did that a couple
of times, it started to come back, but not with a great selection,
but I will try again.

That's because there is nothing to feed you as far as content. You can still use the search bar to search for any video you choose. If you want it to give you images, then you have to un-pause watch history, and it will start building recommendations again.

this is what we get if we clear the history completely... because it can't then tell what your viewing preference is... but that is my bugbear because I, like you Mike don't want it to give me only content that I've watched..I want something different.. a variety...

Just because once I clicked on a baby lauging video..I don't want to be inundated with baby content..or animal content.. for example...

OK, I went back and deleted the history, then I turned it back on
after a couple of requests, and watched one video, then I clicked
the YouTube symbol at the top left of the site and it gave me a bit
of a selection, but it had help from somewhere, probably google,
as it got shirty with me before when I stopped the history and it
accosted me by text when I was off the YouTube, anyway I got a
lot of recipes and dashcam stuff, but tomorrow, I will start deleting
stuff that I don't want to see and that will give me a better selection,
I hope.
