Does anyone else have music brain?

I swear, there isn't a day goes by when I don't have some song stuck in my head. I do always listen to music when I exercise, and at other times as well, but it always comes back to bite me. There is always some song playing in the background of my mind, and sometimes I want to concentrate on something else, and there it is rebelliously and relentlessly parading it's way into my conscious mind, like it has squatters rights or something. I also hate it when I am put on phone hold, and they've got some loud hold music on a loop that also eats into my neurons and takes up residence. Anyway, just wondering if it's just me who needs a daily music exorcism.

I like the way you put this. Very funny.

I once read that to get a song out of your mind, listen to it.

I had Lady Gaga's Bad Romance in my head for 2 days. I don't particularly like it but it's definitely earworm potential.

So I listened to it and it lost it's spell on me.

Huh ..... it seems contrary to what one would think, but it may be worth a try, although no too often is it the same song for me. It's more like whatever I last listened to.

There is nothing wrong with having a song in your mind. I've been listening to music constantly since I was a teenager. So there are always song lyrics on my mind. Sometimes, I'll sing a line or two, wherever I may be. Matter of fact, at this moment, it's some lines from that old Crystals song, Uptown.
Well, at least I'm not alone. I guess I should not try to fight it, and embrace the tunes. I think many of them were created with the goal of getting it stuck in your mind.... Well, it's working.

bobcat48: I was only reading about this the other day, I suffer from the same complaint. It's called an Earworm or a Brainstorm, also known as Sticky Music or Stuck Song Syndrome, is a catchy or memorable piece of music or saying that continuously occupies a person's mind even after it is no longer played or spoken about. I have to go through it every night before I fall asleep. Most annoying.

No, it's not just you. When I'm taking a shower in the morning there is always a song stuck in my head. It is usually something completely random from a long time ago and it is a different song every morning. It only happens when I'm getting ready in the morning and I'm not distracted with some other activities.

I've tried to do some research about why this happens and I've read that if you can't sing the complete song in your head it will repeat over and over in a continuous loop. It drives me crazy.

I also listen to music through my Airpods when I exercise, but it is never those songs that stick in my head. I can completely relate.

Try the Baby Shark song. I couldn't get rid of it.

There's always a song in my head, but not to the point that it disrupts my day. Sometimes it's a song I haven't heard in decades, sometimes ones I don't even like! Sometimes the songs just stay a day or two, some stay all week. I often wonder why this happens and keep meaning to research it. The suggestion to make it go away by just playing the song doesn't work for me, because this song has been in my head for almost a week and I've played it several times a day since. I posted it in the What Are You Listening To thread the other day. I bought the album just for this song decades ago. I looked for it on YouTube a couple of years ago and couldn't find it. I'm glad someone finally posted it.

I have the Apple Music App on my phone for about $10./month. Well worth it. I paid a lot of money for my hearing aids with blue-tooth capability. Also have Thrive Hearing Aid App on my IPhone. I turn the sound off on my IPhone and no one can hear my music but me. I especially lI’ve listening to Elvis, Roy Orbison, Tina Turner, Eagles, Bob Segar and many others while doing my daily walks.. Yes, one of their songs always gets stuck in my head.🤦‍♀️☺️

I don’t mind having a good song stuck in my head, but it’s self-torture if the song is something like Paul Anka‘s Having My Baby. Now a good song can be indulged; I’ll go to Utube and listen to all variants of it. Right now the song stuck in my head is Sweet’s Fox On The Run, but of course I like it! It’s a time-travel delight; the clothes, the big hair, the time period. The song found new life when included on the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 soundtrack…

Yes, love the song, but now that's going to be stuck in my head all day. Lol

I'm stuck in the music of the 60s. When I whistle or hum, it's a "A Hard Days Night", or the Stones' "I Ain't Got No Satisfaction".
This thread reminds me of a buddy. In 1964-65, he worked at the NYC Worlds Fair in the Pepsi Pavillion. That was Disney's "It's a Small World" ride, with that song repeating, over and over. His job was to shove people onto the little boats. If he didn't do that the long line outside the building would never move. It was not a fun job. But that song is only a few seconds long, and it played over and over and over. He hated it because it was burnt into his brain. When he came into the bar, we all start singing it, and he'd get so mad. He just couldn't beat us all up.

That method usually works for me too. Only problem is high risk of going down Nostalgic Rabbit Hole listening to other songs of the era or with a related feel to them.

Nothing wrong with that. I find I have an affinity for songs that when they came out I didn't like them much....like a lot of the disco songs.
But now, thanks to the phenomenon of nostalgia, they bring me joy.

I think sometimes earworms get triggered, at least for me, because as songs of our youth become public domain, they often turn up, with or without lyrics, in commercials. I swear there's an ad (can't recall what for, often leave the room or check notifications for sites when they're on) that plays the music only of chorus if 'One Toke Over the Line'.

I have be careful when i take the risk, needs to be end of day with all chores done, goals met, so i can just let myself enjoy it without thinking, 'i need to stop this (been known to get up and dance around some), and do________!'.
