Does anyone have a chocolate Labradoodle?

Oh! SeaBreeze !!!!! This sight has me almost in tears for the "CUTENESS"!!!!!! :love_heart: I have been seeing them, out on my walks, too........they are always just "WAY TOO CUTE".... but, like you, the only ones I've seen have all been the "buff" color? My favorite kind of dog has always been a labrador.....my last "walking buddy' was a yellow lab......which is ONE reason I don't want that color.....too sad!:upset: I am not quite ready to get a dog, again, YET.....I can't wait to move to the country, when we retire...THEN I will get one! I also owned a poodle, once (it was given to me by a relative) and she was soooo smart that I almost felt she was more" HUMAN" THAN DOG.......so, when I heard about the "labradoodles"......they have really captured my interest. I HATE the thought of the "puppy mills" and all that crazy stuff.....how horrible! So, I wouldn't want to do business with that kind of "crime syndicate".......but I've been wondering, lately, how a "chocolate" labradoodle would look......? Your web link was the FIRST ones I've seen? I was a professional groomer for 20 years and was around when the "doodle" fad started. Just remember these are not purebred dogs, hence there is no standard for size, weight or coat texture, and this can vary greatly, so what you get as a puppy may not turn out to be the dog you invision. Even pups in the same litter can be very different. Generally speaking most are good family dogs with good temperaments. Most develop a longer, softer hair coat that tends to matt easily, so they required thorough, frequent brushing and grooming to prevent having to shave them. Many people opt to keep the coat trimmed shorter for easier maintainance. Keep in mind they are bred from sporting dog breeds, so they will require plenty of attention, exercise and training to keep them mentally and physically conditioned. I love dogs and encourage people not to fall for cuteness :love_heart:eek:r make emotional decisions on picking a dog, but to do research on the breeds personality, grooming, exercise needs and compatibility with the family or owners lifestyle, as the cuteness can wear off quickly if you choose wrong.

Over the years I cannot recall seeing any chocolate doodles, usually, yellow, buff, cremes, greys and blacks. Chocolate colored standard poodles and labs are not nearly as common as the other colors,and of course golden retrievers are varying shades of gold, from buff to red chestnust. It just may be that the other color genes are more dominant than chocolate.

It was interesting to get this information from your professional experience........I am well aware that labs need exercise!!! That is one reason I wanted to wait until we get to the country! A lab is a good fit for me..... I am very accustomed to owning them. I do appreciate the fact that people need to think about all of the "logistics", and not just LEAP before they LOOK! :rolleyes: I plan to do a lot of thorough "investigating" (from every angle) before I select my next doggie!!! I have such a close "rapport'' with any pets that I own....they just beome like "family members"....only better behaved, maybe? :D LOL!
 
I am fine one to give advice about choosing a dog. I have been a mini schnauzer person for 25 years and I obtained my first schanuzer with all the red flags and don'ts in place. We had been talking about getting a dog, when suddenly my horse that I had bred and raised, died. He was a magnificent 3 year old, and I had just started training him to ride. I was so distraught my husband offered to take me to the mall to help take my mind off if it. As we passed the pet store we of course were drawn in and an hour later left with the cutest schnauzer puppy. I virtually knew nothing about the breed, was not prepared for a dog, I was travelling out of state for my job several times a week, we lived on several acres,but had no fenced yard and on top of it all had made an extremely emotional decision to subject a puppy to all of this. Oh, and don't forget the puppy mill aspect of buying from a pet store. All I know is that when I picked up that puppy and he snuggled into my neck:love_heart:, the hurt:sorrow: from losing my beautiful colt diminished.

Thankfully, Fritz was a great ambassador for his breed, and as a result we came to be owned by several more schnauzers over the years. Luckily I chose well, in spite of myself, as that time I had very little experience with dogs.

As I got more involved with the dog and horse world over the years I have seen the result of much animal suffering at the hand of humans, and my concern for animals may come off as preachy at times. Please forgive me if that's the case, as I did not mean to offend.

Good luck to you in finding your special dog when the time comes. One of the greater joys in the world is being owned by a dog that worships the ground you walk on, unconditionally!

You know, I have some experience (quite a bit) as I worked in the counceling dept. with "AT RISK" kids for the school dist......and got a lot of training and experience.....so then I go out into the world and try to walk through a grocery store or a mall or even watch my own grandchildren being raised....... and I am JUST DYING TO........."give a little advice"........but found out everyone wants the liberty to "SCREW THEM UP" before they would listen to anything I have to say.........SO I have to stand around and watch little souls getting "battered" all the time ....and keep my mouth shut to my GREAT DISMAY!!!!! So, now, I try to listen if SOMEBODY KNOWS MORE THAN I DO........... !!! AMEN

So sad for the loss of your horse, and kudos to your hubby for encouraging you to get a Schnauzer pup, new pets to love do indeed heal the soul.

I completely understand where you're coming from, especially when it comes to your own grandchildren. In a perfect world, you should be able to give advice and have it anxiously received...watching little souls getting 'battered' is very sad, some moms need a 'wake up call', and should consider the recommendations of those who are older, and have experience. All of us have valuable advice, and if not taken, should at least be considered. :love_heart:
