Does Anyone Here Have Boric Acid in Their Medicine Chest?

I recently tried to buy some Boric Acid at Walmart and Walgreen's drug store, neither place had it. I always thought it was a common item to have on hand, especially for seniors. I vaguely remember my mother making foot soaks for my dad with boric acid in them, he had some problems with athlete's foot. I'm slowly getting rid of a toenail fungus that I think I picked up from a couple of rare visits to a nail salon for a pedicure, once it's totally gone, I'll take care of my nails at home like I always did, rarely polish them, maybe once a year in summer.

I believe that people also use Boric Acid for other things, like eye washes. I was surprised not to see any available on the store shelves. Do you have and use Boric Acid for anything?

These Roach Tablets are 40% boric acid. They are small tablets that you put in out of the way places. They work great.

Says they are hazardous to humans and domestic animals.

Thanks Camper, that is what the lady in Walmart said, but I wanted to just buy it at a local store, I never though it wouldn't be available.

In Texas we have GIANT roaches that can fly, and I have always used Roach Away (boric acid) with great success.

Have to be careful where it's placed, as it's poison to pets. I put it under sinks in bathroom and kitchen and back behind appliances, etc., where the dogs can't get near it.

I also have a large labrador that has gotten ear infections over the years, and found a wonderful, immediate solution to the problem... better than anything prescribed by the vet. A combination of alcohol, gentian violet solution and boric acid. .. Works every time for clearing up the problem.

Hi SeaBreeze, why not try Soda crystals, formerly called washing soda, they
are made with Borax a form of Boric Acid, I checked that they are available
in America and I attach the Amazon link, but you might find a retailer near
you.

I have also taken the liberty to check out Borax in wiki.
There is a lot of scientific stuff in there, that I don't know, but it is safe to
use, if you go to Wiki and scroll down to "Other Uses, you will see that it is
also an "Anti-Fungal" product.

I hope that this helps you.

I saw those when I was in Hawaii, huge and flying, not the roaches I grew up seeing in the city. :eewwk: Good to hear you cleared up your Lab's ear infections, where did you get the gentian violet solution, health food store?

Thanks Mike, I actually have some Borax cleaning powder in my laundry room that I never use. I'm not desperate for the boric acid though, my toe is clearing up slowly but steadily. Thanks for looking into it and sharing your advice. :)
