Does anyone remember milk chutes?🤔

Growing up we had one that was in the kitchen. The milkman would open it from outside and leave milk in it.

My father didn't seal it off until many years after all of us were grown. When I lost my key I would crawl in from there using a chair to stand on. I was that thin way back then. I was an adult too.

I don't think milk is delivered that way anymore. Maybe somewhere else though it might be.

Anyone else remember them?🤔

You betcha. Ours was right next to the back door. I still remember the name of the milkman -- Johnny -- who drove for Twin Pines Dairy. Nice guy.

But yeah, the milk chute was relegated to history when the milk carton came along. My Dad bricked up the milk chute sometime in the mid 60s.

We had Thompson's Dairy delivered and they put our order in an insulated box that was kept at the front door...
sometimes my brother or I would add a bottle of chocolate milk to the order after our parents went off to work.

We had the milk cows so I drank raw milk until I was eleven and dad stopped dairying.

That was the best milk ever — it took me a long time to get used to pasteurized milk.
We bought raw milk from a local farmer for awhile. We made butter with it and ice cream. It was good, but somewhat inconvenient, and we eventually went back to buying milk at the market. I do kind of miss it, but it was always a special trip and some extra fooling around with payments. It was easier to deal with it while doing our normal shopping.
