Does anyone still have a cafeteria in their town.

I always loved to go to the cafeteria. We had many back in the day. Where I live there are very few left. What are your memories of going to the cafeteria. I remember as kids, just getting our tray and going down the long line of choices was a thrill. When I was pregnant with my son, I would stop after work and get a slice of lemon meringue pie to go.

Yes there's plenty around ... none in my immediate area, but in all the supermarkets they have cafeterias.....(and then of course in my nearest town and every town and village there's usually a street cafe of some type..in the UK)

I've seen a couple of them in the valley.... just don't know if they are still open for business. Luby's has been around for ages.

There aren't any cafeterias here except for schools and hospitals. There are a few buffets, but they don't thrill me at all. I don't like people hovering over my food and everyone in the place handling the same utensils to fill their plates. It's worrisome enough how kitchen staff handle food and what goes on behind the scenes of a restaurant kitchen.

I remember occasionally going to Horn & Hardart Automat. It was different and fun.

Luby's was big up here for a while but they have sowly closed them. I think there is one about forty five minute drive now.

About the only buffet/cafeteria in our area is a Golden Corral in a town about 30 miles away. We usually stop there about once a month. The casinos used to all have buffets, but closed them down shortly after Covid hit. I much prefer going to a cafeteria where I can chose small portions of various foods, then go back for another portion of what seems good.

Cici's Pizza Buffet is the only similar type of place to a cafeteria that I've been to in decades (and it has been years and years since I've been to Cici's).

I grew up in High Point, NC. We had an S&W Cafeteria in our neighboring town of Greensboro, NC. It was very racist in the 60's when I was a small child because black folks couldn't eat there but carried the trays of the white folks who could eat there. I don't think it is still open. At least I hope not.

Fast forward to today, and we had Luby's in Dallas. They closed as the result of Covid. We also had Highland Park Cafeteria, which also closed as the result of Covid. I think we still have Golden Corral, but we haven't eaten there in years.

No, never really seen one in Utah, unless you count those awful all you can eat places.

My favorite is the Piccadilly, their etouffee was outstanding, may still be. https://www.piccadilly.com/

Unfortunately I think they were all that way...

We had one until a few years ago. It was a family owned relic from the 1940's. Now it's a Sushi restaurant. 🤢

Morrison's has been gone from Florida for many years.

Eaterys come and go. I used to go to Chi Chi's, Mexican food and fried ice cream for dessert.

Never had a cafeteria here as far as I know, but we do have McDonalds, In&Out, Taco Bell, Panda, and the like. They serve the same purpose, but in a more specialized form.

There are only a couple of cafeterias near me, and they are at hospitals. However, the buffet has reopened at the casino I frequent, which I enjoy. A small slice of Turkey, a dab of this , a tablespoon of that, instead of a large plateful of too much food, I get to sample a bit. Perfect for me.

We used to have several buffets in the area. One or two were Chinese food and very good. I haven't been to one of them since before my mom passed and that was 2003. We had such a good time there! My mom and I always laughed a lot. Those were the days.
