Does Anyone Still Live In Their Hometown?

My hometown is Anderson, Indiana. I left there in my late teens. I no longer go back there because I no longer have any immediate family there. It was a great place to grow up in, in the 60's. I have been back several times since then and it's sad to go back. Anderson was a thriving city because it had several GM factories. GM closed all of their plants there in the 80's and 90's. After GM left town, it went downhill fast. The last time I drove through my old neighborhood, the houses were run down. That's too bad because it wasn't a rich neighborhood, but people took pride in their property and kept their property up. They say you can never go home and, in my case, that holds true.

It's been around 20 years since I've been in my little rural Michigan town. I looked it up recently and it's grown to 6,000 people. I would actually like to settle down there in my final years there. This may sound strange, but two years before I moved to my current city I knew I would move here, like it was calling me. This is where I got life saving medical treatment I would have probably never known about from one of the best VA medical centers in the country. But I do miss home.

I'm living in the house where my mother lived for years. After living in New York City, Syracuse (NY), and Jersey City, I moved into the house that my mother rented. She was still alive then. It's the same town I lived in while I was in grades 9-12. Same town where I graduated from high school in. Now I've been living here (same house), since 1994.

Born and raised in Bristol, England. Left there in 1974 and moved to Canterbury, Kent, England. Left there in 1979 and moved to London, England. Lived in Maida Vale in London for 3 years, then bought a flat in Barnet, North London, where my wife and I lived for 4 years. Then bought a 3 bed semi-detached house in Borehamwood in 1987 and we've been here ever since.

I've no plans to ever move back to Bristol. The place has gone downhill in the intervening years, and is now so Woke it would be an absolute nightmare should I ever have to move back there. I have visited though a few times, but only to visit my mum's grave and make sure it hasn't become overgrown at all. Luckily, the cemetary is well looked after so I think she's at peace.

do you still rent it or did you buy it ?

I live up the road from where I grew up, so yes I still live in my hometown, except there is no town, it's a rual township. I moved away for a number of years but once married and starting a family I couldn't think of another place I'd want to be so we built a home here.

I have more accumulated time living on this road than any other resident!
