Does cooking take too long?

I think there must be some people who don't care about what goes into their gut. As long as they are full. Cooking for such people is a complete waste of time.
I didn't prep food much when I was single
Most times a barmaid would fix me something tween work gigs

but

I did go out
I'd treat myself to a dinner at a fine restaurant on Friday night

Get all cleaned up

Just me

Loved it

Savored every morsel

No wasted bites while having to listen to someone blather

I highly recommend the experience

Yes, I feel the same, and I cooked from scratch, too. There are people in my family who eat faster than the dog does.
Yeah, I know exactly how you feel. Once, in The Philippines, I had a friend who often showed up at dinnertime. He wolfed down the food and NEVER SAID A SINGLE WORD ABOUT THE MEAL. Grr !!!!
Finally, when he showed up at dinnertime, I did not offer him as much as a crumb.

I have days when it gets to me. I do most of the cooking, usually I don't get whelmed, but there are times. The kitchen I have is horribly inefficient. If we add in the fact I actually do make most everything from scratch coupled with the restrictive diet that we eat and I spend a lot of time in the kitchen. Lots of prep involved. It's what it is and I'm a person that really likes to cook.

Ya know, ya just gotta be a lot more selective on who you share food with, really hikes up that approval rating. Well, it works for me.

Sometimes. I make a lot of from scratch gluten free baked goods and they take awhile. Have streamlined that by making up several packets of dry ingredient mixes at a time.

Another thing I started last year when supermarkets were short on supplies was pressure canning. My favorite so far has been Creole red beans and rice. Open the jar, heat it up and you have a wonderful, homemade meal that with flavors blended perfectly. I also pressure canned some seasoned chicken breast chunks which is a quick base for meals.
