Does sentimentality have no place in today's society?

It seems there a trend to distance from the tastes and proclivities of grandparents and even parents. Young people aren't interested in the possessions and tastes of previous generations and keep nothing of their ancestors.
 

I have one daughter who likes antique jewelry. She will go with me to antique malls and certain thrift stores. She is an odd duck though. Her two siblings would register on the gag meter regarding anything “old”. It’s all kitschy to them. They would throw it straight into the dumpster! Same with my nieces and nephews. They want the latest and greatest.

At the re-enactment and vintage festivals that we go to, young couples far exceed us oldies. Whether it's just the dressing up that they like I'm not sure, but you do see them perusing the items from yesteryear at the stalls. They also enjoy the evening dance parties, how I envy their energy. The photos are all from one of the biggest events of the vintage calendar, The Goodwood Revival.
 
I love older things. I have quite a few that were from my Mom, Aunts, and MIL. Some are from estate, garage sales etc..It makes me happy to use things that were part of my families lifes and other women that loved to use in their kitchen. I still have all the so called new gadgets but there is nothing better than making things in pots, pans and dishes someone you loved used to use to make meals for the family!!
 
Not sentimental here. Nope not in our family. All new stuff. No antiques , no heirlooms. This is not just myself, but my mom and my grandmother were the same. The only thing that was passed on was a piano to my older brother. Not interested in old stuff.
