Does the town you grew up in ever make the National News?

My home town has made the National News several times, not for good reasons though.
There is a copper mine there which had huge lay offs in the 70's to keep it viable.
The mine closed in 1994 and reopened in 1996 under new ownership.
The mine was the only major employer in the town so people started to move away. Businesses suffered and many closed down.
Three deaths at the mine inside three weeks saw the mine close again in 2014.
It is yet to reopen, if it ever will.

The town I grew up in is the biggest city in the country...so it's never out of the news..... :ROFLMAO:

Conversely.....
........The town I live in is a small rural area where someone's bike getting stolen makes the local news....

Yes, for a small Montana town of 2,000, we even had two or three books published about our town where WR Grace was polluting the environment and causing miserable deaths. They have since declared bankruptcy of that subsidiary to avoid responsibility. At the time it was the most expensive EPA cleanup ever.

Yes, Bristol, UK has been in the national news a few times over the years. It's where the Clifton Suspension Bridge is, and where the SS Great Britain was built. It's also where the Brabazon airliner and Concorde were both made. My mum was a tracer at Filton (the BAC factory site) and worked on the Brabazon, and later on I worked at Filton as a milling machinist and made parts for Concorde.

Since then Bristol's changed a great deal, and not for the better as far as I'm concerned.
