Does Venice live up to the lovely scenic pictures we all see ?

I've been to Venice four times for business or pleasure. My partner has been with me twice. It absolutely lives up to the beautiful pics.

Our only complaint was being there during heavy tourist season when the narrow streets were packed with people and difficult to navigate. The scenery, the shops, the canal-side restaurants were all wonderful. I did see a recent news piece that indicated the canals are really low on water right now and the gondolas are parked in mud. :(

Venice seems to alternate between flooding and drought, but what city doesn't these days? I would absolutely go back.

Like you, I’ve been to Venice many times. I lived in Italy (Turin) on and off with my aunt and visited quite regularly.

My husband, with some persuasion accompanied me to the Venice Carnival which is held in February each year…did that several times.
Love Venice and so glad they are now charging tourists for using certain facilities.

Since the 1970s I've visited Venice several times. I loved it. But at my last visit ten years ago I got a shock. Even during the week in May it was more than overcrowded. There are still some places, for instance La Giudecca or the church of San Nicolò dei Mendicoli (part of the movie "Don't Look Now" after the novel by Daphne du Maurier) which are not overcrowded but all in all I shall not visit Venice again. My wife hates Venice, she always did.

My father was Italian. I was Italian before I became a US citizen. I do love Venice and Italy. I do love everything that is Italian, LOL!
Thank you for bringing us this video. It does look quite tired indeed, unfortunately. I also have not been there in a few years.
