Does Your Doctor prescribe fitness and nutrition or pills & procedures?

Does your doctor prescribe or push nutrition & fitness for minor problems or do they jump right into pills, procedures and/or a big 'oh well' that's old age?

I know too many people loaded up right away with things like bp and cholesterol meds without even trying vitamins and/or a fitness routine. Some doctors will jump right to diuretics for bp without even trying things like extra water, niacin, potassium and working out. Same for circulation problems. But is it really old age or lack of use. You don't use it you will lose it-at any age.

Is your doc a pills & procedures person or a fitness & nutrition person? Or-Oh Well...

I rarely go to the doctor, but I understand that they have studied medicine, and are trained to treat specific area of the body, as opposed to the whole person. I'm the type of person who will research natural medicines on my own if I have a problem, rather than popping pills with side-effects worse than the disease.

I don't rely on doctors at all to tell me what's best for my body. There are times of course where certain medications or surgery are needed, but except in those cases, I'd rather exercise, eat healthy and go the natural route with supplements, herbs, etc.

I don't even ask for doctor's advice on these things, as they don't have the knowledge. They are taught to write prescriptions for the drugs that the agents are trying to promote for profit. Of course, if I was on a prescription medicine, I would have to research all of the side effects and drug interactions with any supplements I was interested in taking. So far, no meds, just supplements and herbs for me.

Doctors don't study medicine they study drugs. The medical system was taken over 100 years ago and they are taught drugs only not herbs not Chinese medicine only drugs and their further education is carried on my the drug rep that comes to their office to teach them on the latest and best drug. When we get the ability to have all different types of medical care than we will have good medicine until then we have to look after ourselves.

my doc knows I do nutrition, and walking (occasionally other fitness stuff) so she encourages me to keep it up. At the same time, seems there is always a pill offered. It is my choice to take it or not. I think pills can be necessary, but I love finding alternative medicines if I can.

I have a regular doctor, and also my cardiologist; both of them are encouraging about healthy living, nutritious foods, and getting a reasonable amount of exercise . I like both of them because they will actually listen to my questions, and treat me like a person, and not just a sheep being pushed through the lines.
As far as medicine, all I take is the heart medicines for my CHF and a-fib. If I asked for pain meds, or something else, they would certainly give me a prescription; however, if all the medicine is going to do is mask the symptoms, then I prefer not to take it, avoid the side effects, and treat the actual cause with either natural foods or methods, rather than just medicating the pain. Sometimes, pain meds are necessary, but usually, if I am careful with my diet, I can manage with out them.

I don't take the flu shots, or any of the other seasonal vaccines, but the regular doctor always offers them to me, just in case i wanted to get it. I like that she always asks, but allows me to make the final decision.

I have sent you a private message that you might find interesting.

I have some major health issues but my primary care is an integrative physician, tests vitamin/mineral levels and treats with natural and Rx.
