Does your retirement budget allow you to travel much?

I got home last night from 11 days in Europe. I took a tour to Lucerne, Munich, Salzburg, Vienna and Prague. It was a group of 27 women and one very nice man. It was absolutely wonderful and beautiful!! However, it took 27 hours to get home and I have severe jet lag.

No, I won't have a lot of money to travel. I'll have to travel through YouTube.

I've never seen Lake Tahoe and I'd also like to go up to Shasta Lake some day. I'd love to see the caves and also a wildlife place in Redding. They also do a festival of lights around the holidays in that town. So perhaps an overnight stay or two in the Redding area some day and a short stay at Lake Tahoe. That is about it for any of my plans.

Jet lag is horrible. I hope you get over it soon. Been to Munich and Salzburg, back in the 70's. That's a nice smaller group. I'm glad you had a good time.

We used to travel to Europe each year on cruises and I always set aside money from bonuses to travel in Business Class. It was our "big trip" of the year. I retired in 2020. In 2021, we traveled to Greece in Premium Economy and it took days to overcome the jet lag. If we go this year, it will be in Premium Economy again. Jet lag be damned.

Now, we try to take long weekends in various cities. We went to Seattle last October and San Antonio a few weeks ago to attend concerts and visit with friends. We're going to Miami in mid-May to visit friends, using airline miles. We still hope to take that "big trip" this year but they are fewer and farther between.

I got lucky on both long international flights that the plane wasn’t full and I had 3 seats to myself which meant I could lay down. Last night I finally slept for more than 3-4 hours and felt better today but still tired.

Every international trip I take the longer it takes me to recover. Also after 6 trips to Europe seeing all the beautiful architecture, churches, castles, etc it’s starting to lose its appeal.

My travel partner has been to many countries more than once and doesn’t feel the same. We have already booked a trip to France next year but I really feel like after that I am done.

I have the cash but travel these days is pretty boring. Who wants to travel the world to see 8 billion people all walking around and staring at their phones. I see that everyday where I live and it's all FREE! The world is still interesting but the people make it BORING!
