does your tree have a theme?

one summer, seemed like every other yard sale was loaded with people pretty much giving away Shiny Brite tree ornaments. they were the things we had on our tree as kids.

another years was all clear ornaments. a job i wouldn't do again. saw someone on a craft show (back when HGTV had real craft shows). some sort of solution... wanna say ammonia and dish soap... and all the paint/color just washed away. well, they LIED... about half needed a bit of prodding. it was a gorgeous. all different size ornaments. clear lights. not an inch of space without an ornament.
i have a big box of pig ornament that have been gifts over the years. have been a "cat lady" for past 10 years or so and haven't yet gotten brave enough to even put up a tree!

idea for next tree... a "Nana" tree. yard sales often have old, costume jewelry. not collectible ($$$) stuff. strings of "pearls" somehow strung together to make garland. and those big broaches and gaudy clip on earrings as ornaments. would also work for a wreath!

I never had a theme for our trees. Now we just have a tiny one in our sitting room and its hard to fine little ornaments so when I come across them I buy them. I can't be picky about a theme.
When we had our large, real tree I'd often think about making gingerbread ornaments with popcorn and cranberry garland.
After baking all the cookies for the family that idea quickly fizzled out.

My tree has some generic pretty balls and tinsel and large gold bows. The majority of the ornaments though are the ornaments the kids and I made every year.

We’d have a theme e.g. one year it was birdhouses so each child painted a birdhouse ornament for themselves, and I’d paint mine to represent the year. The kids that were too young to do it themselves, I or one of their siblings would make one for the baby. And as they got older they often wanted to make mine for me as well.

when each child left home they were gifted with their collection of handmade ornaments. Some of them were really ugly lol! But they were theirs. I kept the ornament collection that represented the year for my own tree. The kids all still display their ornaments on their trees every year. They’re good conversation pieces if nothing else!

More my best loved favorites, than themes.
I'm sure none are surprised by this.
All to do with BIRDS.
As years went on.......added ANGELS.
In the beginning.......had all blue lights.......then the really nice LED lights came out.......i started using those, all colors.
Lights on the tree were a favorite of mine........usually 400 plus.
Filled the house with season decor.

Sounds so lovely, Micka. :)

I saw my friend’s Christmas tree last night and thought I’d tell you about it bc I think it’s not only a cool idea but also it looks very Christmassy. She used these sheets of felt you can get at fabric stores and the craft section of Walmart or whatever to make various little picture frames and put family photos in them. All the frames are different; like some have candy cane stripes, some have little holly berries or snowflakes, etc, and some are a little bigger, some smaller. The backs and the outer frame parts have cardboard inside the felt and one edge of the frames is not glued down so she can slide the photos in and out.

It’s glorious, and you can’t stop looking at it bc you’re kind of compelled to look at all the pictures of her kids and grandkids, some old black and whites from when she was a kid, pictures of her dad with their old cars through the years (those were my favorites), family camping trips, everyone’s pets, etc., and they all look really pretty with the tree lights all around them.

I asked her to show me how to make those frames sometime bc I want to do this next year. (Bonus: Incentive for taking my old SIM cards to a photo processor.)
