Dog(Pitbull?) on a leash kills a man's cat in San Francisco

WhatInThe

SF VIP
San Francisco. A girl walking a dog with her dad or boyfriend lost control of the dog on the leash in which the dog pulled her to the cat where it then mauled the cat. Cat had to be put down with too many traumatic injuries. The man ran over to try and get the dog off.

The girl or woman is seen taking a drink out of a cup and they walk away from the scene without leaving any information.

Shows how strong a dog is when it can drag/pull it's owner without hesitation or no problem. And how weak or un trained the owner is.

I heard San Francisco went to the dogs. I was glancing through YouTube and saw a video of downtown San Francisco. The man making the video said it was pretty much closed downtown with all the stores leaving. I remember going into Nordstrom's to buy a present for my girlfriend. She had her eye on the Disney crystal castle and I thought I would buy it for her for Christmas. I was worried I wouldn't make it back with it in one piece, but I did. Downtown was really nice back then. That would have been around 1990.

I ended up being fascinated watching them turn the cable cars around. That was also the time I knew I needed to get out more.

As a dog lover......

You are responsible for your dog and its behavior. If the dog does wrong, that's down to you.

BUT

People who let their cats run wild are simply beyond me. Anything could happen to it, and in this case anything did. What the dog did was wrong, and the owner needs to be in control of it. At the very least, he needs to stand behind the dog. But the cat owner is not innocent either. If you let your cat wander about wild, unsupervised, then this is the risk you take.

Had a friend who owned a small dog. The neighbor's rottweiler attacked her dog, in her yard. The first time my friend complained to the dog's owner and got a promise the dog would be controlled.

A few days later the dog attacked again, it was worse. My friend believed her dog was dead, so she picked up her 45 and shot the rottweiler. The rottweiler died, but my friend rushed her dog to a vet and it recovered. The neighbor came over to recover the rottweiler's body, my friend never heard from them again.

Couldn't blame my friend; all this happened in rural Wyoming where such things were not out of the ordinary.

Hate to hear of a dog being killed, but yeah - it seems reasonable.

I'd have done the same as your friend. WE have had many different breeds of Dogs, including a pit bull... the pittie was the only one who attacked even tho' he was normally a good dog, he rarely even barked, .. altho' we always had to be a little wary of him because he'd been a rescue who had been treated very badly and come to us, with injuries as well as the Pavo virus.. he was nursed and grew to be a big strong dog, and got along with the other 7 dogs of various breeds belonging to us.. and 46 others belonging to clients .. except one.. the Doberman ..the Dobbie was never a problem albeit he was a little aloof but they didn't like each other at all.. so it was important that the 2 were kept separate and exercised at different times of the day..

Cut a long story short, early morning just as the sun was coming up.. the Pitbull was taken for his walk on lead.. on my daughters land... and the Dobie was out already with a kennel hand.. and the 2 came face to face the Pittie lunged for the Dobie taking a chunk out of his chest... and as a Dog trainer , my daughter who was walking the Pittie, reacted in the way she knew how, and wrapped the leash around her hand.. the Pittie was too strong, and lunged again.. and pulled my daughter over the edge of a 30 foot cliff onto razor sharp flint... she was seriously injured, had to be rushed to hospital , and the Dobie also to the Vet... and very sadly.. the Pittie had to be PTS.... it would never had have happened if the Kennel hand had taken notice of the rules..

Pets should be supervised AT ALL TIMES. Dogs should be ON LEASH while out of the home property; cats should NOT be out unsupervised (they kill birds and leave their toxic droppings in other peoples' yards.)

When we had cats, they were ALWAYS in the house, never out doors (except on a few occasions when leashed which they hated.)

Can you find the Pit Bull?
Couple of my almost 12yr old Mason today. Nice 88F summer afternoon in the sanctuary.
Mason's pedigree is pure Colby all the way back. No outs or crosses, top or bottom.
Owning Mason is like owning a piece of history. He looks as the American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) did at the turn of the last century.
Harrell's Mason Colby ... the pedigree is clickable and you will find some pictures of Mason's Colby ancestors as you go back generations.

Pit Bulls are not for everyone. Some are difficult to own and could become a liability if not properly controlled.
That said, all dogs are individuals and should be assessed as such.

I joined a Pit Bull forum in 2007. Eventually I became a moderator on the forum for about 3yrs.
At the time and before the vast popularity of social media, that Pit Bull forum was the most popular on the Internet.
As a moderator, it consumed too much of my time to try and keep up with the dozens if not hundreds of posts daily.
I had to give it up and walked away, but I took my love of bulldogs with me. Mason wasn't my first.

It's up to us to protect our pets ... not the other way around.
Mason's sanctuary is completely surrounded by secure 6ft fencing.
As much to help keep critters out as to keep Mason in.

Mason is dual registered with the UKC and ADBA. I never intended to campaign or breed Mason, but took him to sanctioned registry events.
I felt as long as he enjoyed the competition, we'd go ... but he didn't enjoy it, so we stopped going.
Mason is just a friend and companion. He's a spoiled house dog that sleeps in my bed every night ... a "Pet Bull".

This was Mason's first show at the Possum Palace in Chipley Florida when he was 6months old in March 2012.
