Dog running for mayor of Toronto

I can think of a few presidential elections here in the US that I'd have voted dog had that been one of the choices.

Why 101 people and a dog want to be Toronto's mayor

Sure, why not? A dog probably has more common sense then the present powers here in Canada. The present crop of self-seeking and very interested in their pension funds politicians are "not working hard for me." They are all hiding while the politically correct force their program down our throats. If one is not cheering for the nonstop "Rainbow" month of June or not digging up 135 year old graves, you are just not "with it."

Being mayor of Toronto seems to be a curse! Last mayor was a very well respected family man & prominent business man until he hit the mayor's office. He then cheated on his wife with a city employee & resigned in shame. Mayor previous to him became addicted to crack once he hit the mayor's office. Perhaps a dog will have better luck?

Well, Rob Ford was Mayor of Toronto so it could happen! :ROFLMAO: This actually surprised me because I consider Canadians our more level-headed neighbors. I guess there are bad apples in every government.

"Ford’s time as mayor, however, was plagued by scandal.

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford leave his home early Thursday May 1, 2014, in Toronto. Ford will take an immediate leave of absence to seek help for alcohol, he said, as a report surfaced about a second video of the mayor smoking what appears to be crack cocaine. (AP Photo/The Canadian Press, Frank Gunn)
In May 2013 a video surfaced that appeared to show Ford smoking crack cocaine.

Ford denied any wrongdoing and ignored those calling for his resignation.

“I do not use crack cocaine, nor am I an addict of crack cocaine,” he said at a news conference.

But as more videos surfaced showing Ford in compromising circumstances, the scrutiny became more intense, and his relationship with the City Council became more acrimonious.

‘My drunken stupors’

Months later, the admission finally came: He told reporters he “probably” smoked the drug at some point.

“Yes, I have smoked crack cocaine,” he said. “Am I an addict? No. Have I tried it? Probably in one of my drunken stupors.”

The situation unfolded like a piece of surreal, tragic comedy – and proved to be perfect fodder for late night TV and comedians around the world.

Ford refused to step aside, even after the City Council stripped him of most of his powers.

He launched a re-election bid and then spent two months in rehab, after which he returned to campaigning. But he had to abandon his re-election bid in September 2014 after being diagnosed with a malignant liposarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that doctors said spread from the fatty tissue of his abdomen to other parts of his body.

Ford was instead elected councilor for the seat he previously held, Ward 2 – his birthplace of Etobicoke North. His brother, Doug Ford, who ran for Ford’s old job as mayor, lost."

His brother (Doug Ford) who lost the mayor's seat to the guy who played 'hide the weenie' with a city employee is now the premier of the Province (Ontario), which of course Toronto is in so, he actually ended up the bigger prize in terms of power & influence. Just goes to show that politics everywhere is a circus. All us voters lose in the end :(

Today, June the 26th is Mayoral Election day in Toronto. Yes there are 102 names on the ballot, but only three candidates have a chance to win. Olivia Chow ( a previous city councilor ) leads with 30 percent of the decided votes. Ana Bailao, the former Deputy Mayor is in second place, and Mark Saunders , the previous Chief of the Toronto Police Service is in third place. Chow has said she is "ready to tax to get the money to finance her plans ". Bailao, has a much less ambitious program. Ex Chief Saunders has run on a platform of "Only I can defeat the socialist programs of Olivia Chow". Chow will attract the votes of the left/progressive voters, based on the memory of her dead husband who was the national leader of the New Democratic Party, Jack Layton. Bailao has a strong vote coming from the Italian, Greek, and Portugese communities. Mark Saunders, who is black will get a lot of votes from the pro Police groups. He will loose votes from the black community, because he was a cop.

So who will I vote for ?Mark Saunders. JImB.

Who says they were well respected business men before they became mayor? These two were brothers who were well known for partying.

You're quite correct PP! I should have said they were both well connected businessmen and quite successful as well - not necessarily respected. There is a very well known rumor around Toronto about Doug Ford and what he was up to as a teenager but as it's just rumor, I would repeat it here ;)

Their family business is worth at least 35 million dollars. It was first started in 1952 by their Father. Fact. JimB.
