Dogs bark loudly and incessantly

Charlie’s bark is earth shattering without reservation. I don’t want a shouting match but times I have to raise voice to get his attention and this ditch effort is performed as a final resort.

Tomorrow I begin Zoom classes from a well-known animal behaviorist who may be our only hope for an orderly and peaceful home.

As a kid we always had dogs, and I love them, but my wife introduced me to cats. We had one that spent half his life in my lap. Willy, I will never forget him. Cats can be as affectionate as dogs, don‘t bark, are easy to care for, and don‘t require one or more daily walks.

And they need a litterbox, walk on your table and often scratch up the furniture. Its a tossup.

I'd be interested to know how the classes go. And I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Granted, but there is another aspect of dog ownership that can be pricey, but beneficial for retirees looking to pick up quite a few bucks — dog walking. Dog owners whose job or vacation precludes dog walking and/or feeding may need to hire someone to fill in for them. Around here, admittedly a pretty high end neighborhood, this can pay $20 to $30 an hour. I once saw a guy walking 5 dogs at once. Ouch!

Which is why after the years of loyal protection services and the love they'd given us plus the good lives they'd been through and left for Canine Heaven. We adopted cats.

Give me a "Bernard" meow. Or a new mew with a head rub, tail curling, a love bite and a lick... And we turn to putty 😺😺😺

No problem here. I walk my dogs by opening the door and letting them out into their 26 acre yard.

Back in the day, when I was a kid, we just opened a door and let the dog out into the neighborhood. My dad summoned him home with one of those ear shattering, two fingers between the lips, whistle. Never learned how to do that myself. Those were the days. (-8

I have had a few dogs that were barkers especially when they were younger. They were good dogs just wanting to protect me and my wife and show off what good a protector they are. When other dogs, cat, people or varmints like raccoons came around our house they would start barking. They would bark and howl to other dogs in the neighborhood and I would for the most part let them. I believe it is good for them to be vocal and express their concerns and emotions vocally. When it became excessive to me, I would put my hand around his muzzle and tell hm no. If he continued on, I would put him on a leash and or have him stay close to me and get him to calm down.

Just asked for a suburb in Vancouver. $30 for half hour, $40 for an hour. More if it’s just your dog. $20 for 20 minutes if you want someone to pop in for 20 minutes to let the dog out or feed them. $300 for doggy care pass for 15 per month.

Jack Russel terriers are the worse breed of all time for non-stop barking, well they are around where I live, just never shut up, all of them, yes ALL of them!!

My Chica would bark if a possum farted, she drove me nuts at times, but I never yelled at her, I would say come here and she would slink her way to me, she was very cheeky that way, I would look her in the eyes and say no barking.
That would last a few hours then she was back at it.

Alas, she was a Kelpie and they are a known breed for barking.

In Manhattan, you see this All the Time! More than five on many occasions. Always love seeing this, and admire the human walker for his/her skill! I can't even walk one dog without getting tangled in the leash!

My JRT was when he was younger. Now 16 and mostly deaf he doesn't hear all the things he used to bark at. Thank God.
