Maybe they were "good doggies" for a long time but they did it and therefore, they should pay with their lives.

That's what I'm thinking. Many dogs especially females like and are protective of children. The dogs or kids did something wrong or the owner missed in training or teaching.

The only thing the owner was missing was brain cells.
