Dogsitting my daughter's dog

So my daughter and her family went to Dallas for a long weekend and the Red River Shoot Out, although I think they call it a round up or some such politically correct term these days. Alas, UT lost. But I digress. So we are watching Marlowe, a dog of indeterminate breeding who is fuzzy, cute as heck, and has long legs for his otherwise small stature. I have fallen in love with this dog and hate to give him back. I will, of course, but how does this creature, who has murdered at least four kleenexes, and peeed on the floor several times, worm his way into my heart? Well, for starters, he's a dog. A friendly dog. And done. He annoys the crap out of my other dogs. He adores people. He pined for Dave this morning. I get up an hour before Dave. I put out the dogs. Our dogs came back in and assumed their usual positions. But Marlowe heard Dave cough or snore or something. He parked himself outside the bedroom door and whined. He seriously pined for Dave. Because Dave is the giver of treats. Chicken jerky! Milkbones! I love this goofy dog! I have considered lying and saying he ran away but I'm pretty sure I'd be found out. LOL!

We used to babysit my brother's dog when he and his wife went on vacations a few times a year. Rudy was a scruffy terrier type a little like your Marlowe and we all loved him to bits, but my miniature dachshund went beyond normal love into fanatic passion. She danced around him all day and when he got old, nearly blind and deaf, she would lead him around by the beard from one fun thing to another. The only times I've ever heard her throw her head back and do the hound dog howl of misery, it's been when my brother would come to take him home.

We enjoy "dog sitting". The neighbors across the road have a wonderful beagle, and she comes over every day when they go to work, and spends her days on our porch. Then, one of our granddaughters has a large mixed breed dog that they got from a rescue shelter, and 2 or 3 times a year, when they leave for a few days, they bring the dog over here. He is rather old, and just likes to sleep most of the day, but he is well housebroken, and makes a nice companion. So, we get the pleasure of having frequent visits with nice dogs, and they get the vet bills.

many years ago, neighbors took sabbaticals and went to Italy for the fall semester. they had a tiny mini-schnauzer... Laverne... Lavvy, for short. Lavvy stayed with us and our 2 "killer (not) Dobies. we took out a section of fence between our yards so all 3 dogs could "patrol" the perimeter. our local police would do a quick sweep of the yards when in the area... probably about the lowest crime rate in county. well, someone forgot to tell the 2nd shift. poor cop came flying over the fence... something about seeing a little grey dust-mop dog with almost 200 lbs of red Doberman close behind.

I used to feed a neighbors dog a Cocker Spaniel every day # noon. He growled at me every day. But I did not mind as I was paid $1.25/wk. in 1958

we shared house keys with neighbors. could tell when neighbor had been there. would find 2 paper plates on kitchen floor and empty dog food can in trash! the girls never growled... not about to "bite the hand" that fed them!
