Doing/Saying Things That Others Think is "Silly" Or "Weird"

As for me, I think there are some of us that do thing or say things that either our age group would consider "silly" or younger age groups would think "weird for their age". Sort of reminds me of a couple of statements some parents say to their teens, when the teen does something silly or older folks can say to other older folks......."You should grow up!", "Stop acting like a child!" Heck, even husbands and wives have said either or both to their spouse. I KNOW, there are those that will say, "I don't care of others think of what I do or what I say", but, then again, there are those that do care (somewhat anyway) about what others think of what we do or what we say.

Last year when we bought Halloween costumes of Princess Leia and Darth Vader, I'm sure there were those that thought we were either "weird" or "silly" or both.........for doing this at our age. Seems like the only Halloween party's there is for Seniors is at Senior Centers or Square Dance Clubs. A lot of Square Dance Clubs are made up of Seniors. Anyway, this year, wife decided she wanted to be a female Stormtrooper. With Princess Leia, she wore no mask and has decided that she didn't like that. So, if her costume fits, that was ordered yesterday, she will be a Female Stormtrooper w/a full helmet on and stand by her hubby who is Darth Vader w/a full helmet on (again). Will really wonder what people are thinking when we both take our helmets off and they realize just how old we are! We have one party to go to..........could be interesting. LOL

Funny, one time when wife and I went into a GNC store, I looked at the clerk and said "you might get some older customers if you was to put some pictures of older people on your walls." I'm sure the clerk thought, obviously didn't say, I was weird for saying that. Well, just thinking about how some of us "older" ones look today, like myself,...........that isn't going to happen (pictures on their walls)!

Another thing, I still say the word "dude" to my BIL and some other guys and "party time" to some people.
These two things I don't think I've ever heard folks our age say!

So, do you say or do what some would consider "silly" or "weird" for our age?

The mould was broken when I emerged into this world. I have never wanted to fit in, even as a young person, much to my mother's annoyance!:D My siblings, kids and husband say I am totally senile and the neighbourhood character, which is good for my street cred.:D They still haven't yet decided which cliff to chuck me off when I get even crazier than I am now.:D I like being told I am a one off!:D

No matter what when or where, someone is bound to think I'm at the very least, different, "weird" and silly any given moment; it is how it has always been just as some think I am too serious or a prude at times. It is a unique few that think I am perfection just as I am. Most importantly, I've learned to be fine with even like many of my quirks.

One good thing about where I live, it is a senior haven, older adults are having the time of their lives and the kiddies are the odd ones, more often than not, trying to fit in. These folks know how to have a good time. And speaking of Halloween, we have a block party in the downtown area like no other, shoulder to shoulder music and dancing all ages come out. This year I have to make up my mind which of the three venues to get out and get my scare on. Likely, I'll attend the block party, two years ago I attended and had a blast. Talk about weirdos, perfect fit.

I use language that at times only certain groups may recognize, but, not always purposely yet, sometimes, I will do it just for the fun of it. I'll admit, ever since I've met the web, my English has become atrocious compared to what it was years ago, but, part of that also is my brain cells are on decline at a faster rate than the average older adult. :stupid::turnaround: . As a youngster, part of my weirdness was my impeccable English, was teased mercilessly for being to proper. No worries there anymore, I's be terrible in the usage of the language these days. :D Though some people still look at me crossed eyed. Oh well. I :love_heart: everyone.

With most things, wife is more serious than I am, but after she has her times. Like, after having a couple mugs of beer or margarita or two, her mouth opens and "away we go" with her walking up to tables and talking to people. That's what happens when we go to see our favorite Disco/Classic Rock band play. I'll be watching the band, turn to say something to her and she is off talking to somebody at a nearby table.

She can be very friendly also. If a car passes by us, while walking on the sidewalk, at our apt. complex, most of the time she will wave to them. I'll kid with her and say "who do you think you are, Welcome Wagon?" We will both laugh. Some folks will wave back at her, while I'm sure others think she is "weird" b/c we don't see anyone in our complex wave to anyone else. Not that's it's an unfriendly complex, but it could be said that it is. We only know the couples/families that live around our apt. b/c, when management puts on a party, not many people show up!

Last year, we won 1st Place at the Halloween Costume Party/Contest management put on. But, then again, we were the only ones (wife/I) at the party in costumes! Only about 10 people showed up for the party and there are 200 apartments in the complex. This year, no Halloween Party.

Some folks in our age bracket would definitely think of me as a "Wild Thing"......at age 65! Some even think I'm too "mouthy" or joke around way to much. My wife loves my humor, but not everyone where we live does. All I can think of to say about that is, "Oh well" LOL.

The only time I seem to get the "silly" remarks thrown at me, is when I'm playing with the grandkids. They want me to 'stay in my place', whether dancing, singing or whatever ...:bigwink: .. lol ... silly kids!

Not perceived as silly or weird perhaps, but I have always done things MY way. I read magazines for those currently working in a field I am never going back to; have to have some challenging aspect for my brain, even though more than once I have been asked why bother. I was in a computer store for parts and a young man was laughing in the back, when I asked him what was funny His reply I've never seen and OLD Geek before.

Oldman, that was funny.

If I do go to the city event this year, I know for sure, I won't wear anything like I did the last time, too many took my costume literally. A time before some were confuse with my other uniform as well, this year, I'm going to make sure I wear something more creepy, so theres no confusion. :darth:

I have never been to a Halloween party, but I bet I could get away with being an old witch. :hide:

Nor have I or ever wanted to do so.

I am about to invest in a solar powered broomstick! It is very environmental and I will feel I am doing my bit for global warming when I fly around on it! :D
