Don’t talk to the telemarketers!

But how is that going to be dangerous to 99.99% of us once people are merely aware of such? Such hacker scam dangers ought never be something we verbally communicating humans in public ever need to be afraid of or inhibit using our wonderful voices expressing ourselves.
 
It's a rare day when we don't get a "spam" call. If we don't recognize the callers name or number we just let it ring and go to voice mail....which almost never happens. I usually look up the callers phone number, and it is always a number that is no longer in use. We have a call blocker on our phone, and I add the number to the blocker....we've blocked hundreds of numbers over the years.
 

During the day, I only answer calls from contacts, and at night, the phone is put on DND mode, so that the the phone will only ring when I get a call from starred contacts. I only have 4 contacts that are starred contacts (family and city emergency alert line).

Well thats a new one. My answering machine has the message it came with so thats one less thing to worry about. I left it that way on purpose since I live alone. I know about the yes thing. Never agree to anything in any form. If you say yes they can record it and use your yes to sign you up for stuff.

I let it unknown numbers go to the answering machine. And sometimes known if I don't feel chatty. If its important they'll leave a message. One problem with this is then I have to clear out the answering machine. So sometimes I just pick up the phone and dont say anything. A robo call will wait for you to answer then they transfer you to a human. If theres no human you'll hear the click when they hang up.

Also my phone is in the cats name. Im sorry he cant talk right now. Hes out cattin around. :D

Yes, it's good your own voice isn't used as the outgoing message on your machine. I have used various "text to speech" sites to customize my own outgoing message onto my laptop, then to my phone, and most of the voices are very natural and pleasant, not mechanical-sounding like they used to be.
 
I got a call one day. Caller asked "Is this _______ (my name)?" I said, "Speaking." He asked again. I again replied "Speaking".

He said "I need you to tell me if that is your name." I said, "Not speaking" and hung up.

Unless I'm expecting a call from the doctor's office, a plumber, a delivery person, etc., I won't answer if I don't recognize the name or number. If it's legit, they'll leave a message. When it's the afore-mentioned people, I never know what number they are calling from, so I feel like I have to answer. God forbid you get a plumber or electrician to call you back and you don't answer; you'll never hear from them again...LOL.
 
A pleasant sounding woman called yesterday and began pitching a medicare supplemental plan that I calmly within seconds interjected into and related, "this person was not going to be interested, please have a nice day. Bye..."

I don't receive many telemarketing calls on Consumer Cellular.
 
Yes, I've heard about this scam 6 months ago. The internet is becoming a candy store for criminal activity. I don't answer unknown calls, but I was doing this before I heard of the scam. My iPhone is set not to even ring to unidentified callers. I see them listed in the "recent calls" list at the end of the day, but I'm not even bothered to look at my phone to see who's calling because it doesn't ring.

If someone asks me if this is my name. I respond "who's calling?"

Thank you! I usually don't answer the "unavailable" calls but sometimes, if I'm bored, I'll answer just in the hope of having them remove me from their call list. Now I won't!
