Don't heat up leftover chicken in the microwave?

Separate from the video, I love chicken made any way I can think of. It's great the next day, too; even cold.

But what is it about 3rd day chicken? It taste weird to me. It should still be good, but I can't eat it.

Is it just me? Do others find 3rd day chicken a bit off?

I have always heard the 48 hour rule...to toss left overs after 48 hours. When I make soup, I usually keep out enough for a day or two and freeze the rest.

I never keep left over chicken more than 24 hours!! I have a dodgy stomach so I'm very careful about leftovers.

reminds me of a poster I made...sorta

How could heating chicken in the microwave be any more risky than eating it cold? Maybe it doesn't get hot enough to kill the bacteria. But, if there is bacteria present, it must have been there already when the chicken came out of the refrigerator. I agree with the 48 hour rule.

I have some 3 day chicken in the fridge now and can't eat it either. It's going in the trash. Just seems unappealing at this point.

I've never reheated chicken in the microwave. If I buy a rotisserie chicken for dinner, we eat what we want and then I debone the leftover chicken and put it in the freezer. It's good to use in soups, enchiladas, etc. and keeps about a month when frozen.

I use the three-day rule with almost all foods including leftover chicken.

I zap leftover rotisserie chicken, minus the bones and skin in the microwave to take the chill off.

I hardly ever eat leftovers anymore. I try to make just enough for one meal or I freeze one meal portions.

Usually any leftovers I have, I can't even look at them. I have to dump them.

I never used to be like that. Now I'm more finicky.

That happens as you get older.

What did you all think of not using the microwave to reheat chicken? It says to use the original cooking method.

Like most have said, I just eat left over chicken cold. I really never reheat any food in the microwave.
Sometimes when my tea or coffee gets cold I'll reheat that in the microwave.

I give all my leftovers the smell test. If they smell fine, I eat them. I've never had food poisoning or any stomach issue related to old food. My Mum used to say I have a cast iron stomach!!

Same here, Ronni. I don't usually know how long some things have been in the fridge, so I just sniff and go. :eek:nthego:
