Don't Let What Anyone Says Define You

I realize how they feel a lot of times, has NOTHING TO DO WITH ME...it's their unresolved issues.
Have you read "The Four Agreements?" If not, look it up. I think you're on the wavelength to get a lot from this book.

There comes a time in your life, when you walk away from all the drama and people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Forget the bad, and focus on the good. Love the people who treat you right, pray for the ones who don't. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is a part of life, getting back up is living

"Don't give up your day job!'
"hahaha! Are you still trying to do art? Give it up!"
"Don't even TRY to do art!"
"Sorry but you have NO talent!"
"I don't know why you keep trying to draw and sculpt!"
"Look! Know your limitations! You can't do it!"
Don't waste your time!"
You're WRITING too? You can't write!"

Just a few comments from husbands, parents, family, friends, relatives. re:my urge to draw ,paint ,invent, sculpt. create. Hurt me at the time but I created anyway. Even the books i had published were accepted with shock and rebuking. What right did I have to create anything?
How dare I? Who do I think I am?

You have to have the courage to stand alone and do what you think or are taught you cannot do, and damn everybody!

I was just thinking back to when I was a lot more active in life. Going back maybe 25 years or so-I had goals that others said I wouldn't make if I did this or that. Well, I didn't listen to them and accomplished a lot. I got my education and persevered in doing quite a lot of good things despite it all. I proved them wrong but mostly I did not focus on them and their opposition. I lived my life the best I could and did well.

Others will always offer opposition to us that could be defeating. But we can always win and do what we need to do and be happy with ourselves. I am going to pick up that attitude again at this stage of my life! I can do the things I set my mind to! I can live well and long!!

So now I'll get off my soap box and go live!

On a side note: Many, many years ago I was called terrible names and treated horribly. Thank God I know these things not to be true or fair.
Good for you Ruth! Would be nice if others encouraged us instead of saying we wouldn't make it, but people are people, some are positive and some are jerks.

Gaer,
Your post reminded me of a comment a radio host made some time ago. His family was solidly blue collar. He mentioned he was going to see a play in NYC. The comment was, "Do you think you are better than us?"
