The wombat, then is not a "protected species", but dogs are to be embraced as near-human?

As far as I know, I would regard dogs as far less valuable to the "human existence" than are wombats. But, WTH do I know?? imp
 
Wombats are a protected species and $70,000 would go a long way to assisting the homeless people living in tents.
