Dumb Phones are Catching On

Back to a flipper. Emergencies/texts or occasional 6-digit security code.

I loved my Military style flip phone mostly used to keep in touch with my Wife.
My apples I carry in Leather Check Book Cover type protection. Used mostly
to keep in touch with her. I guess it cost me more for something I seldom use.
But I have it with me when traveling, that and an iPad for better all around
reception-range. It pairs LTE with the phone, just added the Sim.
The iPads have heavy military protection and stands too.
They easily mount on adjustable stands with Bluetooth keyboards below.
If I am in my office the iPad keeps me notified easily if there is a phone call.
Or mobile text. Phone ringer turned to vibes. Retired but still have to travel.

I have no cell phone of any kind. I am retired and know body has to get hold of me "right now"! Or that's a small risk I am willing to take!
Problem is all my working life I had to be available, when I retired, I just said no more!

I miss my old flip phone, too, with actual physical buttons that you could press rather than fight with glare using an “on-screen” keyboard. It was reliable, served me well for years, and service was on an inexpensive “pay as you go” plan. Then service was discontinued as Verizon did a mandatory shift to a higher network….

Reluctantly, I shifted to a Tracfone that cost relatively little, and is available on a “pay as you go” plan. It’s neither a smart nor a dumb phone, but still has features I’ll never use, unfortunately none of which is a physical keyboard. I only want a cell phone for emergency calls or calls away from home, and you’ll never catch me jabbering on it as I walk through a store…

I could never go back to a "dumb phone". I use my phone for too many things. One critical thing is being able to order rides to and from doctor appointments and even to and from the Amtrak station or Atlantic City pick up/drop off spot. I use Ubers and Lyfts when my son is not available). Another is the convenience of being able to buy train and bus tickets on my phone; getting them at the windows or kiosks, especially outdoor ones, is such a hassle. There are many other things my smart phone is useful for. I've mentioned them in previous threads about the subject.

I'm skeptical of this "Generation Z, Millennials, etc.," nonsense. It's based on little data and a lot of imagination. That said, I suspect that the huge number of kids without an IPhone is the same huge number of people, who grow up and don't have a TV in the house.
Yes I agree.

Certainly doesn't seem any big return to dumb phones in my observation.

And people do so many things on smart phones now, I dont think there is any shunning that by young people myself.

We have a "smart" phone but only carry it when away from the house, and never use any of the "aps". If/when it shows any signs of failure, we will probably get a basic Flip Phone.

I would be far happier if I could have my landline back. When they switched providers where I live they lost my landline. Ijits!
