Dump Cake

I've made that and it IS good!!! In fact, guess I'll make it again, as long as you posted the recipe.... ;)

Diwundrin, couldn't you just use fresh cherries and simmer them with a tiny bit cornstarch to make the filling??

I've made Dump Cake with canned fruit cocktail, blueberry pie filling, cherry pie filling, apple pie filling, canned peaches...any of them work well. Spice cake mix pairs nicely with apple pie filling or canned peaches, chocolate cake mix with cherry pie filling (think chocolate covered cherries). I like this served a bit warm from the oven yet with a scoop of vanilla bean or French vanilla ice cream.

This afternoon I made a decadent chocolate cake called Caramel Poke & Pour Cake. Mix up and bake a chocolate cake mix in a 9x13 pan. Let cool in the pan on a wire rack for 10 minutes, then use the handle of a wooden spoon to poke holes in the cake at intervals that would be the approximate center of a cut square of cake. Pour a can of sweetened condensed milk into the holes and let cool another 10 minutes. Cover with a 16 oz jar of caramel ice cream topping. Let cool completely, then "frost" with Cool Whip. If you like, sprinkle a crushed Heath bar or toffee bits over the Cool Whip. I skip the crushed Heath bar because this cake is already so rich that it really doesn't need anything else.

Yes, use the whole can...sweetened condensed milk. Pour slowly to give it enough time to soak in. I just do the holes one at a time and by the time they're all "treated" the first ones are ready for more. I think there's no- or low-fat sweetened condensed milk but haven't tried it on this cake. Maybe I should next time.

I have no idea how many calories are in a piece, but it must be at least a gazillion. I savor each and every bite so that one piece will satisfy me and none of it goes to "waist"!
