Dunkirk

Are Americans our age familiar with this amazing evacuation?

Our age yes, half our age many are not.

That was the war or kept the war as short as did by rescuing that number of troops to fight another day. I don't think too many realized how significant that was until later or after in the war. I still don't think Germans could've mustered up enough for a Naval invasion. The Germans had some great ships and submarine fleet but I don't think they had the Navy to transport and support the hundreds of thousands of troops needed to invade England. That could've stalled the allied effort. Other than developing and deploying the bomb first the Germans were still done because they overstretched themselves during the war.

My friend saw it this weekend and told me not to bother. She couldn't differentiate with the armies' colors/planes being so much the same, nor could she understand what they were saying. Said she only heard a half doz words clearly, and she doesn't have a hearing problem. Also, it's extremely loud to the point of being uncomfortable.

It was an incredible evacuation, but I think I'll have to pass on this one.

I saw this movie Monday night. It is probably fairly accurate, Historically, as it seems that the British Navy had little means of conducting such a massive evacuation. It was only the actions of hundreds of fishing and private boats that saved hundreds of thousands of British soldiers who were trapped between the advancing German Army and the ocean. This movie is a graphic "documentary" of the chaos that can occur in war. There is little other than this chaos in the way of a storyline...and much of the movie would be uncomfortable for those with sensitive ears...due to the extremely loud sound effects of artillery and gunfire, etc.

Bottom line...save your money. For me, it was little other than a moderately interesting 2 hour diversion from the action on the casino floor.

Hubby and I went to see it today. I thought is was less a documentary approach than a film that immerses the audience in the experience. I found it very moving.

From my perspective, the hero of the film was the father who took his boat across the channel with calm resolution to save as many young men as he possibly could.

The sound track was difficult. I have no problem with various English accents but a lot of the dialogue seemed rather blurry to me.
