Bass player for ZZ Top died today at age 72. I liked a lot of their songs and they had their own sound.

"The band behind songs like "Gimme All Your Lovin'" was founded in 1969 and in 2004 was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. "The rough and gruff Texan band had a reverence for their roots," the Rock and Hall of Fame website notes, "but never took themselves too seriously."
"ZZ Top recently announced that Hill was taking a "short detour" to Texas "to address a hip issue," TMZ notes. The band said at the time that Elwood Francis would fill in for him, as "per Dusty's request 'The show must go on!'"

Back in the early 1980s, I went to a nightclub to see The Fabulous Thunderbirds (I think that was the band. It might have been George Thorogood.). After we got our tickets, a short guy with a long beard entered along with four or five other people. I said to the attractive young woman who was with them, "Hey, he looks like a member of ZZ Top!" She said, "Yep, that's Dusty Hill." They wound up sitting at the next table over from where we were.
I love ZZ Top's music from the '70s. RIP Dusty Hill.
