My family used to drive over to Weston, Vermont the second Saturday in October which is around peak foliage here. My dad birthday was around then. Tradition dictated visiting the Vermont Country Store (it's original location). We'd also stop at the Quality Restaurant in Manchester, VT - a place that is now long defunct.

A few years ago friend of mine and I used to take a drive over into New England around Columbus Day. Now she can't do it anymore because shes crippled with arthritis, but here are some pics I took on those outings:

Happy Fall, y'all! I like @DebraMae's post saying "I like winter. Spring is nice. Let's skip summer and do fall twice." I'm all for it. Summer heat gone (not quite gone here yet, tho), cool nights, flowers still in bloom, a/c off and windows open :)

Autumn colors are nice while they last, but the cleanup once the leaves are down can be a hassle. At my previous house, the fallen leaves were knee high because there were a lot of huge maple trees around the house. I mulched them up with the lawnmower, but it was a lot of work to get the pieces small enough to decompose over winter (bran flake size). Now I just have one small maple and the leaves seem to disappear by themselves over winter.
