Eating Out: Don't Forget to Check Kid Meals

While on a road trip a few days ago, I wanted to order curbside pickup from Perkins. And I wanted breakfast for dinner because they serve it all day. Okay, so the standard breakfast food menu had items for $12-$17 and I was about to order eggs & bacon... I never eat 2 eggs at a time, but what can ya do?

Anyhow, I didn't want a massive portion so checked the kids menu. One egg your choice (over easy for me), hash browns, toast, one side choice (mine was bacon), a cookie (sugar cookie for me), AND a drink (went back to my childhood and ordered chocolate milk.) The cost for all that? $4.99. Yep, I'm going to be checking the kid menu when I eat out after this!

My family was once very embarrassed as my dad would do this. Since I was seven, we spent weeks every summer at Miami Beach. He had a small appetite, I had a big one so he'd eat my child's meal and I ate his. One day, it was at Wolfie's a well known spot, the waitress called him out Publicly! as she had seen us do it before.

Probably my first embarrassing moment, and it wasn't even mine!

When I get that twice a year urge for a fast-food burger meal, I get a kids meal. Small cheeseburger, small fries, small drink AND A TOY!!! Win-win! I toss the toy in the glove compartment and save it for a bribe when I have the kids in the car. OR, I'll admit it, I play with the toy myself. I'm such a kid!

I don't know what the big deal is about ordering a kids meal. It's just a smaller portion is all. I like the kids meals at McDonald's.
