Eating out: what was the worst meal ever served to you?

We were in a little town outside Melbourne Australia. On the tour, we only had about a half hour for lunch. Stopped at a pub that featured "Basket of shrimp and a beer". That sounded good, so I ordered it. Well, what came out was not fried, breaded shrimp, as I had expected, but cooked shrimp in the shell with the heads on. Since we had a limited time to eat, I ended up eating one while shelling the next one.

Yes, I've learned from traveling to many countries that what you think you are getting is not what you actually get. I've had the same shrimp with the heads delivered. Not for me. And if you don't want the head on the fish, don't travel to the Mediterranean!

When I was in High School I took a popular young lady to a high dollar seafood restaurant. It was known to have the best seafood in town. I ordered for both of us. I believe it was Surf and Turf. The meal was brought to our table and really looked delicious. She took a bite of the fish on her plate and I could see by the expression on her face that something was terribly wrong.

About that time I detected the odor of what smelled like canned tuna that had been left out in the sun for a couple of days. She was a very well mannered young lady and somehow managed to swallow that bite of food. I never went back there and told the story every time someone mentioned that restaurant. Come to find out I was not the only person who had gotten bad food there. The place had been there for many years and is still in business to this day. Go figure?
.....:(

My husband and I went to the new steakhouse that had opened in our neighborhood. They tried to be upscale but I had to send the food back twice. The steak wasn't cooked properly, the fries were thinly cut and burned. We never ate there again, though recently I've eaten at their upstairs bar/club area and the food was decent. Tied with them was at a Jazz club that served fries the same as the steak house. I forgot what else was ordered.

Honorable mention goes to Chipotle though they don't offer wait service. My first and last meal from there was when my son took me. What a poor excuse for Mexican food. I didn't want to hurt his feelings but I knew I'd never eat there again.
