eBay Problem

I haven't logged onto eBay for awhile. I tried to log in this afternoon and wasn't able to because it said I was logging in from a different computer. I'm not using a different computer. They gave me a number to call and a security code. I called and, of course, got someone in a faraway land. She asked me for my name and address, which I provided. Then she asked me to verify my phone number. I gave her the number I had listed and told her it was no longer in service and that I had a new number. She said she could only verify the number that's listed and I needed to change it. I said, " I can't change it because I can't get into my account to change it." She said the new number wasn't acceptable because they couldn't verify it.

Then she asked me for the two middle numbers of my social security number. Say what? I asked her if she had my social security number and how could eBay have it because I've never provided that information. She said they didn't have it. I said, "How can you possibly verify something that you don't have? You have no right to access any part of my social security number for verification." She went on to say this was part of the verification process and I repeated myself and said I wasn't giving her any numbers and that I wanted to speak to a supervisor. The whole conversation was crazy and made no sense to me.

So, she put me on hold and came back and said her manager was in a meeting and that he would call me at the number I gave her within 24 hours. Then later, I got an email saying, " Thanks for calling us today. Let's make sure your phone number is up to date so we can better protect your account." But I can't log in to change it, lol.. WTF? We'll see if the manager actually calls me. I'm ready to tell eBay to go eff itself.

Has anyone else run into this problem?

When I went searching for answers, I ran into this article, which I think will interest anyone who has anything to do with eBay.

I had the same type of problem on a different site. To log in they were going to text me to my old number. I couild not log in to change the number.
I finally called and got it straightened out

Had a similar experience with Google, had to login (Never done before)reason was I was using a different browser than when I first opened the account, Google thought was a different computer, but the fact was it was a different browser!!.....technology don`t you just love it?

Bella,

Instead of getting upset with them and calling to get nowhere,
just open another account, when you get it, lodge a complaint,
and explain about somebody asking for your Social Security
number, a person who answered their phone number, that will
shake things up, add your phone number.

Good Luck.

Mike.

Thanks for your replies. :)

As expected, I didn't receive a call from the manager. This isn't the first time a customer service rep has referred me to someone else who never responded. I think it's par for the course when they just don't want to deal with the problem. Other times, I've been put on hold only to be disconnected. And there's your "customer service."

On the off chance I might be able to log on, I just tried again. I logged on and a page came up saying they were sending me a verification code. I got the code, entered it and a page came up saying "Something went wrong"... then I backspaced and was logged in. Well whataya know? I cannot 'splain, Lucy. 🤨

I had a similar problem. After spending an hour with an Indian "customer service " person, and still locked in that endless computer loop, that's what she told me to do
