Electric Bill Almost Doubled in a few months

On the West Coast many people have swamp coolers because they are so much cheaper than AC. However, they only work if you have very low humidity. We had that in our house and it kept the summer bills low.

Hopefully prices come down again somewhat as the readjustments made over the last two years work their way through the system:

The story in Europe looks increasingly dark and cold for a while though. People are still poaching and fighting over firewood in Germany, and now I'm hearing things about mysterious clear-cut logging in corners of the UK.

My relatives in Poland have a coal furnace. They never come to visit in the winter because they have to be home to tend to the furnace. The air pollution gets bad and I only go visit when no heat is needed.

I’m envious of all of your power bills! We have a coal furnace but our last electric bill was $191 and that’s cheap for this area. My sons, who also live in southern WV but heat with electricity, have electric bills of over $400 a month. Our water bill is also super high. Don’t even ask about internet or phone. Our public service commission seldom turns down a rate increase request and we have the bills to prove it.

Admittedly out of date, but just in case, our electric bill decreased substantially when I, long ago, replaced our incandescent lights with LEDs. Believe it or not I visited a friend this afternoon who is still on incandescents.

They are all going up but you are doing much better than us Californians with the evil Pacific Gas & Electric. The evil of this company is not just my opinion either.

It's a numbers game with the Utilities. They got to get the power to you so they charge you whatever when It has to get to your meter to use it. Then you have the Solar and Wind. They have to sell it to the power Utilities so it gets to you but you still pay more. Its all financed. Its all
figured out in advance. The capabilities - the transmission losses + repairs, upgrades, new installations over the next 50 years + 1000%. If
one thinks paying $4,000 a year for utilities, give it 10 years and $14,000. Most will be huddled around and old barrel with wads of AMAZING shipping boxes and packing burning in them at the Landfills all night ... The meters here send usage back to utilities.

I need not get into the correctness of the whole scheme. You know already! It's just the wild plug stuck in one's butt stuff!
There was a time when all you could smell with a breath of fresh air was manure. The stuff laying in the streets.
