Eleven Year Old Girl Beats Baby to Death

I just saw this report on CBS news and I am appalled. I do not understand what is going on nowdays -- maybe I am just getting too old.

In Cleveland, a baby was staying overnight with a woman and her eleven year old daughter. The daughter took the baby upstairs and beat her so badly she died. The eleven year old is now in custody and charged with what the news called "the juvenile equivalent of murder."

What in the world causes a child to do something like this?

I had to look up the story. Seems like it was this girl's idea to have the baby stay over her house, and her school had to call the police for her on another 'non-violent' incident. I wonder if this girl was on any prescription pharmaceuticals for ADD, ADHD, etc. They are known to cause homicidal and suicidal tendencies. At the age of 11, I was carefully and lovingly babysitting babies and toddlers, and would do all in my power to see they weren't harmed. People don't give their children the attention they need these days, IMO. Will be interesting to hear the rest of this story. My heart goes out to that poor baby and the mother, how heartbreaking.

One of the first things I learned in childhood was that it was wrong to hurt other living things. I was also babysitting at that age, and it would have NEVER occurred to me to strike a baby, no matter what. I remember at an early babysitting job two doors down from where I lived, a baby would not stop crying, and I called my mother to come over and see if she could figure out what was wrong, as I had tried everything I knew to do -- no wet diaper, not hungry, burping, etc. I just wonder what, if anything, some parents are teaching their children these days. I also think children are way over-medicated these days -- give 'em a pill rather than teach them how to behave.

That's the way I was brought up too Butterfly. Sometimes kids are shown no affection from their parents, and perhaps all the socializing they do are on social media, which is a problem right there. They are never taught or experience real empathy for other creatures, it's sad really, not very good for our future, but some people really don't seem to care.

And just think - there were NO firearms involved! The wonder! :nonchalance:

Sometimes you just get a bad seed, and you have to put it in with the other bad seeds so it won't germinate ...
