Email from Facebook - Is This Real?

This ended up in my junk folder. I don’t know if it’s real. It looks like it. I was about to Report the User that it wasn’t me but the link went to what seemed an unusual address and I backed right out.

When I check the facebook address it says security @ facebookmail dot com. (This was all one link)

I tried to look for help in FB with no luck.

The email address facebookmail . com seems a bit suspect, but my grandson has gotten the same email a few times. He just assumed his mom was checking his account (in a responsible parent way) and he ignored it.

Not sure how you should handle that. Especially if you didn't go on your facebook that day.

Try searching "How to email facebook" or something like that, and see if you get that address.

Well that was interesting. I nearly had myself convinced the email was real. A search found that the address is the one that they send you a notification of a security problem. I also found I could dig in FB and see what emails they’ve sent me recently. Zero.

It does show me being online on a Mac (I don’t have one) in my town. Earlier in the day it showed me being on my iPad and that was correct. Somehow I think it’s mistaking my ipad for a Mac tonight.

One errant letter or number and it's a scam....

They're out there phishing
I agree with Gary. Sounds like a scam. Be careful.

And one of the mistakes I have made...is that, in trying to report a bad email, I have opened that bad email. And then, you have problems. So, you know, just get rid of the thing.

There were no errant letters or numbers. It was perfectly written. The source address, which I found later online, is the one they use to report possible security issues to you.

Further digging in FB, one link shows you the mail that FB has sent you. This email wasn’t in there that’s why I decided the original letter wasn’t legit.

I’m still not sure that someone didn’t try to get into my account.

I checked the real " Facebook", and there is a section about "facebookmail.com", so facebook has such an animal as "facebookmail.com". And it does send out warnings.

Very common email notification, when an online account is logged on to with a device that doesn't have that website's cookies to recognize.

In this case someone with a Google Pixel 4a cell phone logged on to your FB page.

Nothing nefarious or spammy or spookie, just what websites do as a small attempt at looking like they're trying to protect the user.

After I install/re-install a new operating system on one of my computers, I dread logging into Google, as they require a Two Factor Authentication whereby they send a message to my cell phone, which I have to hunt down and acknowledge. Later, a forboding email appears in my gmail inbox stating: "someone using Linux tried to log into you account".....oooooh

I think that also happens when you visit a website that asks if you want to continue through your facebook account, or through google and some others. My wife gets that whenever she wants to look at houses on Zillow and a couple other realty websites.

I always decline the "continue through your facebook, gmail, whatever account" prompts because I don't want them connecting too many dots.
...not that there is actually any real privacy anymore.

So, what is new? Crooks sitting in front of their computers, sniffing cocaine and then trying to rip people off so they have money for their consuming drug habit. Such are some of the "joys" of the world wide web.

Now, what about that former army commander or was it dictator who wants your help in moving $30 million to Canada. Oh yes, he is willing to amply reward for your kind help. Isn't he wonderful? Opportunities like this don't come around everyday. You better act quickly before he asks someone else!

Me, I skipped the offer. I wouldn't know what to do with all of his money. Just might get a heart attack!
