End of GP Home Visits..

Oooh aside from patients like your husband, who can't get to the surgery Charry, I honestly thought GP"s scrapped home visits years ago..!!
Our surgery tells us if we can't get to the surgery then we should dial for an ambulance.. they never come out!!..but I would never ring for an ambulance unless I was seriously ill.... Surely they would make exceptions in cases of those who can't leave home or who are bedbound!!

A few years ago it allowed that you could choose any doctor
anywhere that you wanted, but that could make home visits
a bit difficult.
At one time while working in London had my Doctor in
Burton on Trent.
The Doctors somewhere voted to scrap home visits.

The health Secretary refused to remove the requirement
of home visits from Doctors Contracts.

my husband has a drs visit regular, for his warfarin levels, and his pain levels.....
Thats abit stupid holly, telling people to dial 999 ,it could be the smallest of ailments ....what a waste of time and money ....

When did they cancel that option to have any doctor anywhere?... I'm not permitted to choose a n NHS doctor outside of our Trust..it's really annoying !!

Home visits. This had to be in the UK. Docs, in the US, stopped making house calls in the 1950s. Here , in the US, most docs schedule six patients per hour. That's 10 minutes to greet you, take your history, discuss your complaint, thoroughly examine you, prescribe meds, and write a synopsis. There's not much time left for driving.

I have to phone the surgery at 8am weekdays to request a call from our Doctors and they have a Triage. I can request a call am or pm between surgery hours. This has been in force a few years where I reside in the UK. It's okay as I am not seriously ill but do have conditions that need attention and we have a good Nursing team and diabetic team.
Has anyone heard of Push Doctor service in the UK? A bit hard for me to explain but it can be looked up on Google, here is a link:

It's a local problem, only applying to England.

Fuzzybuddy is right for the USA. I know of doctors who are "On Call" specifically for housecalls and have had to use them years ago. They took my insurance and charged a modest fee on top. Other than that, the last time I had a house call was when "Uncle Miltie" was on TV, so I believe that was a Tuesday.

I haven't needed to ask for a home visit in a long time, but here's what my "local" health centre website says....
Home Visits
There is a Doctor available each day to undertake requests for home visits. Those who are housebound or too ill to attend the surgery can request a home visit by phoning xxxx xxxxxx before 11.00am. Only emergencies will be visited after this time.

It was after 2006 when I retired, my Doctor at the time
found out that I had moved and struck me off his list,
so I had to find another one, which I did. Some time
after this they said that you could choose your Doctor,
same with Hospitals, you can ask to be referred to any
hospital, within reason I suppose.
But! All Doctors will only recruit within their boundary
which was allocated years ago, the reason, in case they
need to visit you at home if you are too sick to go to
the Surgery.
The vote to stop home visits was on the 22 November 2019.
The Health Secretary refused to accept their decision on the
23 November 2019

Unfortunately our local surgery which is very oversubscribed has no such policy with regard to home visits. Last time I had a home visit was over 20 years ago, when I was unable to stand , but now they say, in the same circumstances to call an ambulance.. ridiculous because then there's anything up to a 10 hour wait at our nearest A&E...

I passed out due to dehydration this July in the heatwave that hit the UK and I was out and about in a public domain. Caring folk were brilliant and the mobile medics arrived in good time and took me to the local A&E 12 miles away.
The staff at the A&E were excellent and as I waited on the trolley to be attended to watched how they went about their duties with diligence and care. I was treated with expertise and respect by the lads in the ambulance and the hospital staff.

Yup. That's health care in the U.S. You guys in the U.K. were so lucky to have home visits this long. We haven't had them for decades. I hope you all can cope with the transition.
