Discussing Grandparent names, and it made me think of this.

I am the Queen of endearments!! Honey, sweetheart, baby, darlin', lovely, angel....I use them all, often to the exclusion of the actual name of the person!!

Ron is always "baby." He often refers to me as "love" less often as "baby." My kids are always one of the names above, depending. I tend to shorten or otherwise change names of the people I'm closest too, grandkids especially. One of my granddaughter's names is Lucy, but to me she is always LuluBelle! River is Rivs, Milo is Mino. One of my granddaughters in Cali is Katey-Bug, never just Katey. One of my other grandkids here is Boo, her next youngest sister is Karleigh-Bear or just Bear, and the youngest, Ella, is Bea.

I refer to my 4 grandgirls in California as Grams' Girls, the 3 from one family as Gramma's Girls, and the three from my daughter as Bee's babies. With a couple of exceptions (like Lorelei became Boo when she was tiny because I melted when I saw her in her first Halloween costume of a ghost and called her my Boo Baby...and it stuck) I have no idea how this all evolved, it just sort of happened.

What about you guys? Do you use endearments? Pet names?

Not with adults.

They always give me flashbacks to brassy waitresses calling elderly people doll, girls, young man, etc...

OH yes I too am the Queen of endearments too... or shortening peoples' names, which easily could annoy some people, but so far no-one has told me off for shortening their name, I feel they know it's a term of endearment. Everyone knows if I;m not too keen on someone, then I'll call them by their given name...

My daughter has so many nicknames I gave her from a child.. mainly Dolly ( as in baby doll )... or Babby (baby) ..even still call her those names now and she's 42 LOL>..

I call my hubs by his initials NJ ... and he calls me Bubs or Princess ( as in princess and the pea) because I'm so delicate according to him :sunglass:

Personal friends online are called Mi Chica /Mi chico

I always use endearments to my daughter, often use the term ‘darling’ and shorten names if I really like someone, to me it’s a sign of affection and I don’t mind people doing the same to me, but I respect the fact that not everybody is happy to have their name shortened and they only have to tell me once .....(miserable so and so’s) :D :D

I often address the women that I know as "young lady". They invariably give me a big smile. I live in a geezer colony.

My husband and I use them for each other a lot at home, he'll call be Babe and I'll usually call him Honey or Honeybear, and the list is endless. I use way too many for my furkids every day, they know they're loved (and spoiled). :love_heart:

In the south we use them all the time. Darlin, sugar, honey and baby are said and I do not even think about it. When I used to work at a car dealership we had a salesman that was the image of Conway Twitty. I always knew he wanted a favor when he opened my office door and said "Hello, Darlin". My girls in the office hated that he was married but we loved that "Hello Darlin, greeting in the morning.

I use Honey and Babe a lot for my husband. Usually sweetie or baby for the grand kids and most of them are in their 20s. My husband usually calls me Babe, Baby or Honey or Hon. I call my kids by their first names almost always.

I use certain names for some people. My daughter is called Precious,or Heart,or Lovey.I call my son King. My grandsons I call handsome or Perfect. My granddaughter I call Beautiful ,doll face or sweetheart. I refuse to say what I call my Husband on the grounds that it might get me in trouble.:D

My lady is ‘Babe’
In referring to her with acquaintances, she’s ‘my Lady’

I’m Gar (gare) in her world.

She has special sweet names for all 15 g’kids

I usually call them 'spore' when referring to any offspring
(she knows I’m kidding, but do get a punch in the arm or chest, or open hand to the back of the head anyway)

When male G’kids are present, I oftentimes adoringly call them 'dipshyt'
If two or more are present, they look at and point at each other, like ‘he’s asking for you’

Then the wrestling begins
I can get two in a half nelson at one time

The girl G’kids are always baby girl….no matter how old they are
