Enjoy a beer with your daughter.

We have some (very) old home movies of me as a toddler carrying around a long-neck Pabst Blue Ribbon bottle. My mother said my dad couldn't drink a beer without me trying to get it, so when the bottle was empty they'd let me have a drop. I've loved beer all my life.

My bestie was telling me a story this morning about going to visit her grandma (the woman owned a cattle ranch)and Grandma took her and her cousins to the feed store one morning. They returned home around lunchtime and she fed them all bologna sandwiches and tomato juice with beer added in. She said they all ate and drank, then went out to the sun porch where they all promptly "fell asleep" for the entire afternoon. She thinks Grandma was was just "done in" after the feed store and four kids running around....

After my divorce I had custody of my two teenaged boys and I let them drink around the house. Why not? They would have found a way to anyway. I sure did when I was that age. One day I had a particularly bad day at work and on my drive home I kept thinking about that one beer that I had left in my refrigerator and how good it was going to taste when I got home. But when I got there it was gone. My oldest son had drank it. From then on I used to tease him about how he was the kind of person that would "drink a man's last beer".
