It seems that younger generations are using movies as as their source of history. Oliver Stone's JFK was believed to be factual by many and now Selma. The portrayal of historical figures are distorted for dramatic effect and movies like these are admittedly not documentaries, but audiences can walk away believing that they are the truth, especially younger impressionable ones...
 

And you probably just liked men in tights, too... :D
 

Many people were upset with the portrayal of Lyndon Johnson. In the movie he was hesistant about signing Civil Rights legislation, and gave MLK a hard time in some scenes. while people say in reality he was not and was a staunch ally of MLK and wanted to bring about change. I saw the movie and didn't think he was portrayed all that badly.
 
Selma had four Golden Globe Award nominations, including Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Director, and Best Actor, and won for Best Original Song[SUP]][/SUP] It is also nominated for Best Picture and Best Original Song at the 87th Academy Awards.

We watched the Golden Globe Awards and Oprah wasn't happy at all that the movie only came away with one award! Perhaps it will do better at the Academy Awards?
